It all depends on what type of zombies we're talking about. If it's the Night of the Living Dead one-shot-to-the-head type of zombie, I'd go with a Ruger 10/22, a couple thousand rounds of ammo in 30 round mags, a glock 19, a quarterstaff, my CS mini ghurka light khuk, and a tomahawk plus regular camping/survival gear...

You have to remember that in those movies, the zombies had really taken over. There was no hope of resupply, and literally endless zombies seeking to feed on the living. You would want to choose a weapon that allowed you to carry the most ammo possible, which is why I choose the 10/22 and the hottest .22 ammo I can find. My range would be limited, but I would be running for high ground, not looking for zombie trouble. Also, the stopping power of higher calibers is wasted on something that can't feel pain and would not stop even if you blew half its torso off. It's only the destruction of the brain that killed the zombies in the movie, so you only need to get through the head to do the job. Alternately, I'd take some sort of .223 and as much ammo as I could carry with my other gear (probably a couple of hundred rounds)...

I would also be taking the keys to a well stocked 30' Fisher Pilothouse Northeaster Ketch, and not bothering to fight millions of zombies...
Excellent point, the .22 was reccomended in the "Zombie Survival Guide" book as the preferred zombie killer for headshots, not only is the ammo plentiful and lightweight, the report of a .22 is much quieter than the larger calibers, so firing off the .22 should not attract more zombies to the sound as the higher calibers would....

there's no point in the "intimidation factor" of a large bore firearm either, zombies show no fear or any other emotions, they're not going to be "scared off" by a larger firearm

the .22 also creates less "splatter" risk, if the zombifing agent is viral or bacterial, creating an aerosolized spray of "pureed zombie skull" isn't the best idea.....

the best firearm combo for a zombie uprising is a .22 rifle (Ruger 10/22 with large capacity clip) with "Hyper Velocity" ammo (or a rifle chambered for .22 Magnum) and the good ol' reliable 12-gauge (Mossberg Police-model 500 series for me, thanks ) for up close encounters (Shotguns lose effectiveness beyond 100 yards or so)

I would drive around a mine flail like the one above and I would have a Mini-Gun from a Huey Gunship mounted to it. I would also have some HK USP .45's, a couple shotguns, 40 boxes of assorted amo, a scythe, a machete, and of course.....some Slim Jims and Sam Adams.

Okay, in the spirit of "One-Upsmanship", i present the following strategy....

"I say we dust off and nuke the place from orbit, it's the only way to be sure..."
;)

(In nineteen minuets this aria is going to be a cloud of vapor the size of Nebraska.)
A nuke is definitely the way to go.

and of course.....some Slim Jims and Sam Adams.

Sooooo, are they for the Zombies? They prefer brains and Budweiser! Jeez!

Heck no. I'm not sharing with them. Those are for me. If I have to ride around in that Flailer all day long I'm gonna get crocked. :)

You got yerself a deal thar partner. :D

I'm not sure about the rest, but i'd definitely take a 2-handed sword with me.

Can't run out of ammo, long enough arm to behead a zombie before he can touch me.

This one looks about right:

I could imagine that this thing is extremly usefull outdoors, in open space... when you run out of ammo and they come too close, just start swinging it arround and arround, at about head's height. Those a little bit smaller, will get they'r head cleaved in two, those a bit bigger will get cut into two by the shoulders, no problemo.
You'll probably easily spot those being alot bigger than average, just adjust your swinging height... sure, you could cut them in half, but they'll probably still crawl towards you on they'r bloody stumps.
The only thing you'll really have to worry about is the occasional child zombie, or the oddball dog/cat zombie.

Also, a couple of good files for resharpening.
Oh, and a shovel or a pitchfork. When the work is done with the Bidenhänder, i want to get out without getting my shoes dirty from stepping into any of the stinkin' corpses arround me.

Also, a H.I. Khuk of about 40-60 cm, for indoors CQB.

By the way, folks...

I would definatly want Mila Jovich with me. She could kick all the zombies asses and then we could go have pizza. If she wasnt available a good auto pistol with the highest capacity mags I could get. Does anyone have Mila's number just in case?

Can I first say, great thread.

If tomorrow morning I woke up and Worcester was full of zombies, I think I'd grab the following weapons:

CRK Shadow IV
Hanwei Bamboo Snake Katana
Telescoping auto jutte
Walking stick
Propane Combustion Potato cannon, loaded with beer bottles.

I think that's all I have laying around that I'd be able to carry and fend-off zombies. My buddy has a bunch of guns and MREs so I'd make my way to his house.

A tough question, but an excellent thread!

First off, I'd have to go for my Mossberg 500 shotgun, strapped to my back. While a 20g, the right ammo would allow sufficient capabilities, and being smaller shells than 12g shells, would allow me to carry more ammo.

I could carry three pistols (I've done it before when I was too lazy to make two walks to my storage room), a S&W Model 66 in .357 Magnum, my SA 1911-A1, and a SA XD-9 SC. Chances are the SC would be in a compartment in a backpack. The backpack would allow me to carry an ample supply of ammo, medical supplies, batteries, twinkies (they last forever, after all :D), and a couple of bottled waters.

Of course, a flashlight would be required. A 4D MagLED would be on the backpack, strapped in the drink slot, for bright light, or a backup blunt weapon. In addition, a Fenix P1 would be my choice for more frequent use.

My SOG Seal-Pup would be on my belt, as would one of my folders, for utility purposes. All this on me would allow two free hands, in which I would carry a katana. Not to seem like a mall-ninja (If you don't know about mall-ninja's, Google it, and be prepared to laugh), but it would be suitable for removing the zombies' limbs. It allows a good reach, and has great offensive AND defensive capabilities. Granted, I'm not trained, but zombies aren't really the fastest. If it's not an option, I'd go for a machete in one hand, and a khurki (spelling?). A blade weapon (or a pair of them) would be a must, to avoid the dependance on ammo. I'd think that I could manage the katana, though.

Finally, in the event that it doesn't all work, and I'm doomed, I'd fashion a zip-gun, with a single .44 Magnum bullet, for a quick death. If you don't know, a zip-gun is a crude firearm often crafted by people in prison, usually single-shot, for smuggled bullets. Being that I have the option of preparation, mine would be more effective, to make sure that fires when I need it to. Better a quick death than being eaten alive.
