Ok, long story short. I bought (paypal) a flashlight on May 5, 2011. I did not hear from the seller after he received my payment to confirm it had been shipped, etc. After a few Pm's I got that he mailed it on the 12th and said it should be 5-7 days. No biggie!

On the 20th I sent this email:

> >> Vernaculos, it has been eight days since you said> you> >> shipped the flashlight. I haven't heard from you> and> >> communication has been less than what I would> expect. I> >> have, and always do, like to give people the> benefit of> >> doubt, but am starting to think I have been taken> advantage> >> of. I really don't want to jump to any> conclusions, but will> >> need to file a paypal dispute if I don't have the> flashlight> >> or response by tomorrow.> >> I hope this can be worked out peacefully! I have> spoken> >> with the guy who paid for the Esee and the guy who> paid for> >> the Busse. They are also being very patient.> >> Thanks for your integrity.> >> Mark

Here is the reply (May 21):

> > My stepmother passed away recently, and I haven't been> home, let alone online. I apologize for the> inconvience this may have caused. I mailed the package> "small parcel air", which from previous experience takes a> little over a week.

My response (May 21):

I'm sorry to hear about you stepmother. I was close with my stepdad. So was the package mailed on the 12th like you said or later? It is now the 21st, so that would be 9 days. I paid for it on the 5th. I certainly understand extenuating circumstances as long as communication is present.

3 days later I send (May 24):

> Daniel, I still haven't gotten the> flashlight, nor did you reply to my last email. I paid for> the flashlight on the 5th. You said you mailed it on the> 12th. It is now the 24th. Can you give me an explanation? I> want to be fair. I feel that I have been more than patient.> I either want a refund of $40 or the flashlight. I don't> care which. I am going to file a dispute with paypal by> tomorrow after I check my mailbox unless I hear from you> tonight.> Mark

This was his response (May 25):

If you want an explantion, take it up with the post office. I upheld my end. If the mail is slight, the mail is slight. I mailed your flashlight weeks ago. Anything after that, take it up with the post office. Or launch an investigation. I took care of my end. Go FUCK yourself!

I understand that things happen and hate to post this. I really didn't mean to be a pest, but two other guys that bought from him hadn't receved their packages either and I believe filed a dispute. They seemed very patient also. I was also taking into consideration that it was coming from Canada. I was just going to let it go since I did receive it today (20 days later), but felt that the last comment was a bit rude and wanted to warn anyone doing business that this may be what they can expect. Was I wrong?

20 days isn't too bad if shipped from overseas.

The seller was rude to you, but you were probably seeing him during an emotional and stressful time. Your experience with his communication may have been completely different under different circumstances. When waiting for something, I'd wait a week or so before a follow-up.

Never any excuse for the language he used. No response would be better than a bad response. I completely understand lateness in responses due to personal issues, but if you are selling things you have to be courteous and try to be responsive no matter the circumstances.

I agree with CWL, wait some time before you respond to let him get back into the groove of things and maybe he will apologize for his language.

I have bought knives from US and made an exchange with someone in South Africa and it never took more then 7-8 days . And Romania is far ,far away ,not like Canada

lack of communication = fail.
language = bigger fail
slow shipping is a fact of life I ran into when sending some stuff to canada a few months back.
at least you got the light, so I would leave neutral or no feedback, but not negative.

Canada is not geographically far from the US, but we see extended mail times frequently, usually with mail going to them. The holdup there seems to be an overworked Customs system.

I bought a CC Knife off a forum member from Canada this past year and it took over 30 days to get to me.For some reason shipping to and from Canada takes longer.I've gotton packages from Poland in less than a week and shipped to numourus European countries with fast shipping time.

I too have shipped to Canada and shipping does take some time, but i fully agree that his last response was uncalled for and rude.

this guy said that he shipped my package on the 12th also. I had the same communication issues with him as the others. I also could not get a response for the past eight days straight. now today he is telling me that he will just give me a refund, BUT it will take him another week to do so.

Should i be worried? he has not signed on since the day that he marked the items sold.

I always ask a seller to get shipping information if i buy something from a forum. If i am selling something i ALWAYS get a tracking number, i don't understand why people don't do this instinctually.

Yeah that language was definately uncalled for, but loosing a loved one can definately make you more emotional..

That said, when I sell or buy something out of country I go over shipping first. I want it shipped USPS Priority with DC, and ask for the DC number be sent to me when it is shipped. When I ship out of the country the buyer has his DC # usually before I even bring it to the post office. This way he knows when it's shipped and can check status when ever he/she would like with out interrupting my day.

Again, go over the terms of the deal and shipping before posting an "I'll take it"

Glad you got the light.
