You can only keep 1 EDC. What is it today? Yes, I searched similar threads. I'm downsizing my life. Photos in thread.

If I had to pick just one it would be a small fixed blade that I can pocket carry. It would be hard to choose but out of the ones that I actually own it would be either a Buck, ESEE, Becker, or LT Wright.
Which model is your LT Wright of choice? Thanks

Victorinox Electrician. If I can't do what needs to be done with this, I'll hit it with a rock 🪨

Your comment made me think of: Rock, Paper, Scissor game. Otherwise known as:
  • Rochambeau
  • Roshambo
  • Janken
  • Paper Scissors Stone
  • Paper Scissors Rock
  • Ching Chong Cha
  • Jiandao Shítou Bu
  • Schnick-Schnack-Schnuck
  • Piedra, papel o tijera
The only thing I don't like about the Electrician is that it has no scissors for that paper. I love my Leatherman Wave + for that as well as the Victorinox Swiss Army Champ I keep in my Murse (house to car bag).

Well, that is a tough one: however, from a practical point of view I'd get by comfortably with my BK14.
That small fixed knife is my true EDC and an amazingly capable little blade with such a versatile bladeshape.

A close second is a Spyderco UKPK. It's easy to use, cuts like a laser, is stainless and easy to sharpen.

Yikes, not allowed to have a locking blade in Germany? I do like my little Spyderco Dragonfly, slices like a laser.....but so does my Takamura R2 Gyuto 210mm for when I do most of my "laser" slicing - in the kitchen.

Found this for Germany, so the Spydercos can all be opened one handed I suppose. Someone needs to invent a locking folder that requires a second hand to open. Some unique mechanism. Or maybe the law is writen more specifically to prevent this.

What about the Buck 112? I can't open it one handed. I'm not sure anyone can?

LEGAL POSSESSION – ILLEGAL CARRY

Knife types that can be legally owned but are prohibited to be carried in the public:

  • Fixed blades with blade length over 12 cm (4.72 in.).
  • Fixed blades with more than one sharp edge of any size (incl. kitchen knives!)
  • Dagger, swords and axes of any size
All knives listed above can be legally transported in a locked box or stowed in a locked suitcase or attaché case. The knife owner is responsible that neither he nor any other person has instant access to the knives.

Prohibited knives and weapons found in a car will be presumed to be owned by the driver unless it is found on one of the occupants. If the vehicle is one for hire, such as a cab, then the weapon is not presumed to be possessed by the hired driver.

There's always the Pioneer X. You lose the sheepsfoot/wire stripper, but gain the scissors. I like the X, but it's a little bulky for shorts carry. Fine in jeans. That's why I picked the Electrician. It carries better when wearing shorts and, after all, we can only have one ;)

It's only a thought experiment to laser focus on one's favorite knife. I'll probably keep 10 or more.
I didn't pick my favorite. I picked the one I like and thought would be the best compromise.

I’m not sure which one I would choose. This is my LT Wright collection so far. From top to bottom: Frontier Valley and Maverick Colt both A2 steel, Patriot(s) x 2 both O1 steel, Frontier First(s) x 3 O1, A2, 3V steel in that order. I like them all and would be satisfied with any of them. The first two would be the best all arounders in my collection but the rest of them are easier to carry around all the time. I want to try a Next Gen and Bushbaby at some point.

What about the Buck 112? I can't open it one handed. I'm not sure anyone can?

I've opened and closed mine with one hand for a long time. I pinch the blade between my finger and thumb, use a pant-leg assist and Bob's your uncle. I think that's how they did it before knives became "tactical."

If living in a salty or warm location: Spyderco Salt 2 (serrated)

I carry one in waistband in everything from tight Magnum PI short shorts, to a suit.

Can be worn to the gym, in the pool, pj's, jeans, etc.

A fixie: the Bark River ULB in 3V. I would even carry it as a neck knife.

I really, really like the Mini Freak, but I ended up buying the Spyderco CF Native S90V instead. I used it for a month at home and then for another month away from home without access to any other knife and it served me well holding its edge all along. So that is tried and true..
I EDC a small sebenza ATM. I love it, but the CF Native feels lighter. Then there is the Chaparral... I wouldn't mind any of these folders as my only.
That being said, I would go for a fixed blade as my only EDC simply because there is nothing that can go wrong. The Bark River ULB or the Gunny Hunter which is my bedside table knife right now, both great and quite EDC-able.

Honorable mention: Ruike Hornet 14C28N is great on a budget.

I would keep my SAK Swiss Champ. I would miss my fixed blades :( but the Champ is a very capable EDC for my uses.

Me too - I have other knives, but I recently stopped carrying Sebenza around my house and replaced it with a SAK. SwissChamp has a lot of useful tools that I find it better than Victorinox Spirit X. And Knipex 100 fills the need for large pliers

Since my first comment, my DPX has been confiscated by TSA, so now I would have to say that I would settle on some flavor of large SHF if I could only have one folder. Of course as I type this there are a few packages on the way, so it might change in a week 😂

Only a single knife? Hmmmmmmm, either my Spyderco Lil’Native or my CRK Mnandi. I love both of them. There are few others that come pretty close but it would be one of those two knives. Probably the Spyderco If I am forced between the two.

Edit to add: a Spyderco Dragonfly. That is a very close competitor to the Lil’ Native and Mnandi.
