"You could buy a gun for that much money!"

The way I buy guns I usually make money when I sell them later on so knives sometimes fall secondary for that reason.

I said it myself many times, and still choose a gun over a knife easily.
My knives do the work they're supposed to do, and none cost "gun money".
I see nothing wrong with anyone buying the knife they want though.

I've got an M-4, 2 1911's, and my knives.
Some people don't get it but that's ok :)

This is how I justify it. I COULD buy a gun for the cost of some of my knives. But I always have a knife on me and I use one every single day. I can't say the same for my guns. That and my knives don't cost more money to use them.....

I didn't bother to read many posted.
I have a ton of guns and a ton of knives.
I can justify a 1500$ gun, but not a 1500$ knife.
I carry an 1100$ gun and a 500$ knife daily. What does this mean? Hell if I know...

I like them both. My wife, however, would prefer that I focus on knives rather than firearms. As I'm happy with my current concealed-carry pistol, I'm more than willing to accommodate her and indulge my interest in CRKs and ZTs. That way, we're both happy.

I have reached the end of collecting guns, as I own now every caliber or style that suit my needs.
And considering the exchange rate of USD/CAN$, collecting is no more a viable option. Prices have increased insanely since November 2015.
So... I seriously went back to knives after a 10 years hiatus, and I'm very happy I did!
I have always preferred buying knives than guns, as guns are just tools to me, or at best sport equipment. I love shooting, but it takes way too much of my time with the reloading chore...
I'd rather spend 3 hs sharpening than making boolits, at least I can enjoy a nicely sharpened blade longer than a nicely pressed cartridge... Bang, it's gone!

Yep, I could have a nice Sig Sauer for 3 CRK. But since there is not CC allowed, or even open carry in Canada.... What's the point?

Why buy a new Rc car for racing when you can buy a cheap Honda to drive

Well put. And why buy a cheap Honda when you can build an ultralight aircraft. WTH I'll buy a throw away steal a Honda and drive to golden CO.

My Sig has retained a good deal of its value, and will probably continue to do so as long as I don't beat it up and keep it consistently maintained.

I could buy a firearm for less money than I paid for my PM2 (and I know people who have), but a) would I want to fire such a cheap weapon recreationally, and b) would I ever consider relying on such a cheap weapon in a dire life-or-death situation?

I know what my answers are.

Why equate a knife with a gun?
They are very different tools that carry certainly different missions. You could never expect your busse ASH to put a dangerous gunner 15 yards away down, and I would definitely not use a M1911 to chop wood, which is a very common mission for scandi knives.
"Why use 400 dollars to buy a knife? It is enough to buy a gun!" The person who make this comment sees a gun as a update of a knife.
But it is not.

BTW, I don't see the difference in everyday use or EDC my $60 knife does then a $400 knife does. Plus I've used $40-60 dollar knives for years..some hard use. And yes, I have a few $300+ knives. Just saying.

Quite amusing to see this old post of mine revived. I posted this back when I bought my first $1000+ knife. Glad that the topic is still making us knife and gun guys think about our priorities.

I think this comment really nailed it though. It's less of a question about utility and more about value (which is entirely subjective).

I've bought knives that cost 700 dollars and firearms, bicycles costing less. Then looking at the amount of material and complexity involved in all 3, felt either I got a deal on the guns and bikes, or overpaid on the knives.
