You ever have that thought about a knife...

Nope. Northern light series have metal guards and pommels with leather washer handles, Cold Steel does not. I already own a CS kraton handled Trailmaster and a Recon Scout, great knives despite the differences.
The guard of the SM3 Trail Master is the same material as the TOR. The blade and the guard of the TOR is cloned from the previous all AUS8 version of the Trail Master.

Regardless, if I were to clone say, the ESEE Junglas, but put G10 scales instead of micarta, while legal, it would still be a clone.

For me the leather washer handle and Metal guard and pommel on the Northern light series is very appealing. If CS or another company like Ka-bar, Condor or Ontario did a more reasonably priced equivalent of the Fallkniven i would buy at least one. I own about 40-ish Cold Steel products so i'm not a hater but honestly the Trailmaster blade design/dimensions weren't really invented by CS. I have old reprints of catalogs from the early 20th and even 19th century that have almost exactly the same blade pattern/shape as the Trailmaster. CS brought back and modernized a fairly old pre-existing pattern.

Did you miss my earlier post? These are some very nice knives.

Have you seen these? Blackjack Knives (made by Bark River), A2 tool steel, convex grind, excellent fit and finish. I have a Model 1-7, awesome knife. They have other handle materials too, and other models, these are just the stacked leather ones. I haven't priced them lately, but when I bought mine a couple of years ago I found it for well Under $200.00 after some shopping around.

I actually own a Bark River Micro Canadian, so i am aware of the brand and many of the models. I've had an original Blackjack Anaconda II since the 1990s. I may be wrong but they don't really have anything closely replicating the Northern Lights series in regards to blade length and blade type/shape. If they had a Tor equivalent i would likely but one.

Ok, how about the newly released Bark River 1909 Michigan Bowie or the Teddy II?
At least they are in the same size as the Tor and Odin.

The Teddy II is nice but the Michigan is a little closer to what i had in mind. Hmmm $340 U.S... yeah that a bit too rich for me.

Just realized that Michigan Bowie is almost exactly the same as my old Marbles Trailmaker (except for the steel).
I might just buy an 01 CS Trailmaster and mod it into a pseudo Fallkniven Tor, or just use my SK5 Trailmaster as a base.

Rehandling is fun to do and I do it as a relaxing hobby.
I have not used any Cold Steel blades, but I have a Bark River made Recon Scout in stacked leather.
The blade is 50-100 B also called "Carbon V".

It's one of 20 blades, that was left after Camillus closed the doors.
BR bought them and made 20 custom Recon Scouts.

Nice! It was terrible that Camillus went under but afterwards i also picked up a few post bankruptcy blade blanks as well. 2 Becker BK2s, an unground BK6, a Western Bird and Trout blank, a CS Tanto and a Bowie similar to the recon but a different model, a ground Camillus OVB skinner and an unground Camillus OVB Bowie. I've rehandled all but the two unground blades. The OVB Bowie blank is massive, even bigger and thicker than my CS Trailmaster.

tholiver,

It looks like You already have good blades for custom handles.
That Camillus OVB blank will be a great project, if You choose to make a knife out of it!

Mikael
