Druid, do you have any knives with the handle shaped like your overhead drawing? It looks a bit uncomfortable to me, but everyone is different. I like a "coke bottle" shape myself. I'll see if I have an example somewhere as the descriptor is not really accurate.

I do like the pocket clip. All of the folders I carry have a sheath now, but before I started leather work I never carried my Opinel as I hate my knives to sit at the bottom of my pocket.

Yes actually. I have a Case Folding hunter [like the one below] that was the inspiration for the drawing of the new handle:

I love that knife and it goes EVERYWHERE in the woods with me, regardless of the day's events. It's one of the 3 minimum blades I have when out there. That knife has processed more game than all my other blades combined.

As you can see, the handle shape is very similar and the Case is very comfortable. The only differences are the forefinger notch and the central tapir in the center of the scales.

Sorry, I meant the top drawing that looks down on the spine.

I hope that didn't come across as brash. :o

That Case is a fantastic design as are most of them. I'm a GEC man, but I love Case too.

This is a set of scales I made, they are in the coke bottle tradition, but the pic doesn't show the swell well.

This shows the shape better, but it was taken before a lot of final sanding/shaping.

You get to choose the handle material. Sorry my phone takes crappy pics, I couldn't find the digital camera:

Your wood choices are:

1. Natural Tigerwood
2. Brushed Sandalwood
3. Patagonian Rosewood
4. Brazillian Cherry

I'm not in any kind of rush so take your time deciding.

Which do you prefer? Thanks! :)

OK! Found the good camera and realized...maybe you'd want to see the unfinished side of the wood. Orientation is the same as the original pic:

Finished side:

and I just received more samples if you want to consider them as well. I didn't number them but from left to right, consider them 5 through 8...

5. Brazilian Teak
6. Brazilian Walnut
7. Red Oak
8. Red Oak Select [better grade]

These are completely unfinished so I don't need to take a pic of the reversed side

ah sorry, ment to post earlier, but got sidetracked... i am for #1 the tigerwood. also great idea about the new handle for the opniel... oh, and definately keep the collar lock!
