Since you just felt you had to say that, as if you are apologizing to somebody for something...I'll go on record as disagreeing with you in the strongest terms. Abnormal, vile and disgusting behavior. Sorry dude. Have to draw the line somewhere. But perhaps we would all be better off discussing blades instead of morality. Regards,

Devo, I am apologizing for nothing. I have my beliefs and that's that.

Also, there are ways to more tactfully present your views. Words such as "abnormal, vile and disgusting" show little respect for another's opinion.

Our ability to veer off topic is one of the greatest features of this place. Sometimes we differ in opinion, but that's OK. It all works fine as long as we can agree to disagree and speak well and respectfully to each other.

I don't want a flame war here. Just don't disrespect my opinion and don't be so blatantly offensive. Use your head.

I know this is a little offtopic, but as long as you were discussing Freddy Mercury, could someone tell me what happened to Billy Idol, and how he is regarded by RocknRoll today?

I wasn't really listening to RocknRoll then, but thought Idol had talent. A little too cross gender for me, but I recognize creativity.

kronckew, nice recipe. I hope you are not trying to prove me wrong, it would be kinda hard given my current location :)

no, the original post, like the recipe was said in fun, i am well aware that 'ich bin berliner' and 'ich bin ein berliner' are both acceptable, and that a jelly donut is NOT called a berliner in berlin, and i seriously doubt he knew of the alternate (tho far fetched) meaning.

but it made a good story. if he'd said he was a hamburger it would have been funnier though.

Munk,
Billy Idol just put out a new record. Steve Stevens is back with him playing guitar and co-writing. The song I heard on the radio was decent enough. Had a Rebel Yell feel to it.

My older sister was a fool for bilyl idol.
Dancing with myself
Rebel Yell
etc.
We used to try and make our lips curl like his and jhold up a fist when we heard his songs.

I even liked the just a gigolo song david lee roth did where billy idol got electrocuted.

is that right, or is my memory starting to go?

It's not ? I think jelly donuts are called Berliner even in Berlin. Would surprise if it was a different thing there than anyplace else in Germany  I will collect some information though, I'm calling a buddy from Berlin.
Berliners are very tasty though, I love them. Can you get them in the USA as well ? I suppose, but I've never seen 'em.

I am currently a Hamburger. That is, I'm living in Hamburg ;)

Am i missing something here? thetreeoflife.com just talks about stuff that any man, woman, or child could contract whether he or she is straight, bi, gay, or whatever. Hell, most of those lil critters you'd be more apt to get eating an undercooked steak than doing the naked dog and cat chase;)

I think the whole goofy point of the statue of Freddie being erected (no pun intended although it is funny) is that it was done to kind of thumb their noses at the adult entertainment centers. What the Japanese don't get, i guess, is that ANY rockstar you make a monument of CANNOT be a symbol of wholesomeness. Rock n roll just ain't that kind of thing. Sure Freddie got down wit da fellas. Big deal. He paid the price for it although i wouldn't call it immoral, or any more immoral than sleeping with a bunch of chicks whose names you don't know. That's besides the point, though. The bottom line is that rockstars get the groupies...always. I can't think of anything more entertaining in that adult sense than having a line of ladies waiting outside my dressing room door. Heck, even Meatloaf gets the girls! Meatloaf! The man that named himself after a dish that can be wrought by baking hamburger, ketchup, and oatmeal together!
Queen still rocks. I still like them as much as I still like the Red Hot Chillie Pepers and Elton John;)

In Bavaria this is a "Krapfen" - but then some do not consider Bavaria a part of Germany (and some deny Franconia - where I live - is a part of Bavaria) - separatism is not serious but omnipresent here :D The inhabitants of Berlin and lower Saxonia call it "Berliner" or "Pfannkuchen" - as you can see from the recipe on page 1.

Andreas

PS. what about "Wiener" (German for inhabitant of Vienna - and this sort of sausage), "Frankfurter" (the same kind of sausage) etc.? I read "weiner" several times in wine and cheese and from our friend Yerik - guess the context- is it just a misspelling or is it a different word?

yeah, Andreas, that's what I thought. Berliner all the way. Pfannkuchen doesn't quite work for this one I think.

Anyway, being from East Frisia, I don't consider Bavaria to be a part of Germany ;)

Actually the statue was erected to promote a hit musical that has been playing to sellout crowds in London for 2 years.

The fact that the theater is in the same general area is a coincidence.

I loved Billy Idol's first album. His last in the 80's was a bit weak, but he was on the leading edge starting out. Got a kick seeing him do a cameo a few years ago in that movie "The Wedding Singer" with Adam Sandler. Seems like a nice guy.

I'm pretty sure Billy would punch you in the mouth for saying that, Norm:D
Actually, i've heard he's pretty cool. I really hope this new album does well. He's due for some sort of come back. Great music.

First I've heard of this. Seems to me, we get to express our opinions about anyone's posts, just like anyone else. Unless, of course, I don't belong.

BTW, I did NOT give you a red chicklet. If I had, it would have been signed.

Since when was Freddie Mercury "The Poster Boy for Adult Entertainment"?

You're reading too much into it and are injecting your own homophobia.

Yeah, but it is so much fun! Any way, unfortunately he is really dead, I'm told! Happens to most of the best of us, sooner or later. Blades are fun, but morality matters to some of us.... sometimes. I will discuss any and all viewpoints, anytime, anywhere, more or less, ......as long as you admit I am always right!
Thanks,
