You guys are scaring me

well i just dont see it. the cold steel knife i sent in, was still rock solid, sharp, the coating stayed, the G10 was sweet, just minor issues that were pissing me off. im not seeing any real problems.

sometimes arguments are fun though :)

So true. Heck, how boring would this place be if everyone always agreed or simply "agreed to disagree" rather than spend several pages trying to prove "I'm right and you're wrong". Sometimes for me, half the fun is waiting to see how quickly a simple, benign subject will turn into an argument. Sad but true. Bladeforums as spectator sport. :D

BTW, off-topic, what is that knife in your avatar pic. I noticed it before and I like the looks/design of it?

I had a screw holding the wave plate break when I tried to take it out on an AK-47. I mailed it in with a full explanation & got back a new knife rather quickly. I've never had any other issues from the dozen or so CS folders I've owned. They tend to be very well put-together.

THANK YOU!!!! i dont see any "OMG!!! life changing!!" problems with their stuff

Hey dude, I disagree. :p

We can argue about it if you want. ;)

Philwar is not a Cold Steel Fanboy in my experance. I too have owned a lot of Cold Steel knives. For the number of knives I have I consider myself luck not to have had a problem with their products. There have been instances of bum knives getting past QC. I have no idea if it is higher or lower than than industry averages. And there has been a few times there has been really bad disconnects between the Cold Steel Staff and some customers. My advice is that if you have trouble with one of their knives DON'T do anything to try and remedy the problem yourself, Call them First and them Send it Back.

I have heard reports of Warranties being voided because a knife was disassembled for cleaning. If you take the black coating off a blade, void. Batoning Voids, Thrown knife Voids, Camopaint Voids and so on. If you need Customer Service Don't even bother with an Email. They are a waste of time. You must make the phone call. Some Representatives can help you and some sound like they work from a script.

The funny thing is that sometimes they will bend over backwards to satisfy a customer, maybe to get a good word bite or maybe they were just in a good mood that day. Consistency is just about the last word I would use to describe the Ad Department, Customer Service Department, IT Department or the Quality Control Department in California.

There aren't. They're made of average materials & slightly to very overbuilt. They get heat because some guys here don't like their marketing, they don't use higher-end steel (although they nailed their heat-treat), & they make a lot of unusual designs. I've had maybe a dozen or so of their folders over the years, going back to the mid-90s & bought several for friends. I've never had any issues outside of the above-mentioned one, which they fixed. Most of my folders are Spydercos, followed by Benchmades, but when Cold Steel makes a design I like, I get it & am always satisfied with the way it comes out.

Bladeboss, read more, post less. You asked for people's personal experience with Cold Steel's customer service. You got 4 first hand negative experiences and one positive, of which you only seem to be interested in the one. If you don't want to hear what people really think, then don't ask. You've started 15 useless threads in the past week, which could have either been expressed in a couple threads or solved using the search feature.

Not trying to bash the newcomer, but this kind of thing really tends to get on people's nerves. You'll find your stay longer and more enjoyable if you don't clog up the main page with reposts of already beaten to death threads. Unless something significant has changed, the answers to a given question aren't going to be any different because you asked it. Learn to use the search, and you'll find a wealth of information on every knife related subject here.

The only time I carry a CS with me is when I need a knife to let someone else borrow. I have never had a CS that didn't fail after light to moderate use. I will never give Lynn any of my money again.

im trying to learn about my knives, which is why im always posting.
im not focusing on the "one". im focusing on the fact that everyone on her is fighting about cold steel. i dont want to listen to people fighting, i want answers to my question. if youre so sick of me posting new threads, then stop clicking on them. i dont need you bashing me. ive had this account for probably 2 weeks, and youre the first one to bother me. congratulations

What were the minor issues? The black will come off after some use & isn't as durable as other black coatings, but there's a really cool stonewashed finish hiding underneath.

the lockbar moved forward and it was clicking off from the stop pin, and made the blade fall out, UNLESS i slammed it closed

Sounds like a bit more than minor to me, personally. Hope they do good by you. On the upside, they're nice and cheap.

Posting won't help you learn about knives, READING will. There's no need to post new threads continuously about things that you can find with a search. And I'm far from the first one to comment on this habit of yours:

You need to stop creating new threads and just update the ones you've already made. I count 5 from you just on the first page...

Sorry, OP, but I get little to no mileage from this thread you've started.

Did you really think there was someone else on the planet who was not already aware of this?

You really should spend a bit more time looking around here before making assumptions!

I'd go on, but there are 30 threads that you've started in the under 2 weeks so far.

sent in my older style medium voyager. the story:

i got it perfect in pretty much every way. within a few (4) weeks, it developed side to side and up and down play...bad. sent it to them. they said it was within spec...wow. but they said they would sharpen it for me if i paid a few bucks. no thanks. never bought a cold steel after that.

Thats a lock back right? Most companies are like that in that case. I sent a CF ZPD189 spyderco lockback, don't remember the exact name though i still have it. It had enormous up and down play so much so that the back end of the lock rose above the frame of the knife when it was open or closed. And it was within spec for them as well.
EDIT:The OP joined this month and has 130+ posts holy crap.

You haven't got the slightest idea what you're talking about. I know more than you will ever know on the subject. And if it takes me ten pages to prove it then so be it. Don't you realize that I am the foremost expert on, err, uh, what were we arguing about?

Oh well, dosen't matter, whatever it was, I'M RIGHT AND YOU'RE WRONG.

Too funny :D

No, you....:D

I have several Cold Steel knives. Mine have provided good value for the dollar. None has ever failed or broken. The heat treats were good. The designs were well done. Each came nicely sharpened. The fit and finish was good for the price point.

I ignored the company advertising, so I was not turned off by it. I ignored the antics of the company president.

I guess I'm a bit old fashioned. A one-year warranty sounds OK to me. In my experience, all I need is a warranty that is good for the first serious usage. If it passes the first usage, then if it were to break in the future, it'd likely be because I'd be doing something with it that I should not. I don't expect a knife company to cover my stupidity for doing something wrong. So a one-year warranty works fine for me.

My sentiments exactly. I find that all my CS knives have performed as promised and I don't regret a single purchase. Their grinds are good, they come very sharp and they are well designed. I have 18 CS folders and all have blade centering within 2-3 degrees. Even my Kudu knives are better centered than some of my Spyderco and Benchmade knives and every bit as sharp.

Where dealing with warranty issues is concerned, I like to remember that there is a human being on the other end of the phone, that when treated politely, is more likely to go out of their way to help me. In short, I have had no problems with Cold Steel and consider their knives to be a good value at price points I can live with.
