You have $500. Hinderer xm-18 3.5" or Hoback OSF?

I'm getting a $500 Visa gift card from work for my 7 year anniversary. I really like the Hinderer XM-18 3.5" and the Hoback OSF. Which one would you choose? Or do you have something better in mind?

I have 3 Hinderer folders. XM-24 Wharncliife, XM-18 (3.5) Fatty Harpoon, and Maximus Dagger. I have never seen a Hoback.

Of the three my favorite is the Maximus Dagger and I'd buy another. Mine is murdered out - everything is black. The knife just feels small, yet it's a 3 inch blade, double edged dagger.

If I was looking in the $450 to $700 price range right now and did not buy a Maximus, I'd be looking at the following:
- KnifeCenter Spartan Harsey Folder
- Spartan Blades Harsey Folder
- DLT Hinderer Half Track

I would go Hinderer but would throw some serious encouragement to check out the new Eklipse Gen 2 Harpoon Spantos that just came out. This has quickly become my favorite Hinderer in the 3.5" size range. With these you will definitely notice a difference in slicing capabilities too! Factory edge in the pic below!

CRK Sebenza. Holds value like no other knife if you ever choose to resale.

Whitty - this is the exact knife I will be buying. I will contact you for it in a couple of weeks.

If you like the blade style of the OSF, look at the ZT0456
If you like the looks of the Hinderer, look at the ZT0393, good knives that won't take all your anniversary money.
Or, if you're like most everyone else and have to spend it, look at CRK and Spartan Blades

If this knife had an insert like the new Gen 5s, it would be perfect. I'm a little disappointed it does not. I would be buying one otherwise.

I have no experience with Hoback, but I have 5 Hinderer XM's & a Jurassic; so yeah, I'd say Hinderer.

That Hoback isn't half the knife of an XM-18. Its been beaten to death, here and elsewhere, but Chris Reeve Knives and Rick Hinderer Knives are still the production Kings. That is in terms of function, fit & finish, design and durability. I believe that the CRK Lg Inkosi checks the most boxes filling the criteria of overall "best" folding knife, however, a Slicer grind 3.5" XM-18 is my favorite knife.

Out of those two I would pick the Hinderer. If I were to make a suggestion it would be check out the Spartan Blades Harsey folder before you buy either of them.

DAMN! Looks like it's pretty unanimous. I'm looking into the XM-18 3.5", the Eklipse Gen 2 and the CRK Sebenza as well as a few other suggestions. Thanks, guys! I really appreciate the input. I'm not really moved by the Sebenza but a knife with that kind of reputation deserves a second look.
