You have $500. Hinderer xm-18 3.5" or Hoback OSF?

You might also take a look at the new production Hinderer Firetac. It looks pretty nice-thinner stock than the XM-18 but thicker than the Sebenza and considerably less weight than both, which should make it a good EDC. The spanto looks particularly nice IMO. I have only handled the old custom (spearpoint)version and it is a very impressive knife, but knowing how Hinderer does their production knives I would expect the production Firetac to be excellent also.
Won't cost anything to look

DAMN! Looks like it's pretty unanimous. I'm looking into the XM-18 3.5", the Eklipse Gen 2 and the CRK Sebenza as well as a few other suggestions. Thanks, guys! I really appreciate the input. I'm not really moved by the Sebenza but a knife with that kind of reputation deserves a second look.

You can't go wrong with either.

Ok. It's either a XM 24 with a wharncliffe and M390
An XM 24 skinny with slicer grind.
Or, an Eklipse 2 with Spanto blade and anodized titanium
That's pretty much the order from greatest to least. My only concern is with Xm 24 Whancliffe. I want a large knife but I'm not sure if the regular Xm 24 is gonna be too damn thick and heavy or if it will be perfect. Anybody got an XM 24? What is your opinion?

I only have xm-18s and they are pretty thick. I believe xm-24 is thicker than 18. Thus, if you plan to get a 24 and do not want the blade to be too thick, it sounds the 24 skinny is thw way to go.

Ok. I did it. I just couldn't wait. I ordered the Hinderer XM-24 with black G10, a Wharncliffe blade shape and M390 blade steel.
Thanks again for everyone's input! Hopefully I'll love this knife at first sight but if I don't I can always return it and try something else.

I think the Hinderer is better if you plan on really using it for EDC and may look better after a long period of use. The Hoback is a sexier knife, but im not sure it will look as good as a hinderer after long periods of use

A few Spyderco's, a few Benchmades, a few ZT's and a couple Opinels for good measure. I ended up getting an XM-24 with a Wharncliffe blade in M390. Excellent quality but now I have a blister on my index finger from trying to break it in in one day. The gimping on the flipper is no joke! I'll probably get a Sebenza in August when I get my Visa giftcard from work. Right now I'm trying to decide whether or not I should get bronze hardware. I think it would look awesome but that's a lot of money to bling up what is essentially a hard use work knife. The ano will eventually fade anyways.

Screw it! (pun intended) I bought full bronze hardware kit with a bronze clip. I also bought polished bronze washers. That's it. I'm done. I've spent WAY too much money on this knife. Holy crap. I'm getting near $800 altogether.
