You know you are a knife enthusiast when...

So today I had a good moment, when, in the middle of the early morning, in my mind, I settled on which knife I was going to carry, and then began looking forward to carrying and using it.

I go in stretches carrying the same. Subject to the pants I wear and day ahead. Sometimes, like today, I decide on a different carry. For today, BTW, it is the rift, black blade.

Interesting, that this is what is in my mind in the middle of the week and the life challenges of having 4 kids, a busy job, and a to do list that never seems to go away.

You?

Gotta love the Rift. I still can't decide if I'd enjoy the Rift or the Contego more.

I think it's such a good thing, that we can become absorbed in the aspects of this hobby... and for some of us, collecting and using our knives really is a hobby! A few years ago, when I was getting into folding knives, I found myself buying a new knife every three weeks, as long as the steel it used was new (to me), or treated differently. I looked forward to experimenting with the characteristics of steel, and at the time, I was working in a warehouse, so there was no shortage of cardboard, plastic strapping and wrap to cut. Eventually I started paying more attention to ergonomics, different lock types... at the time, I knew I was a knife enthusiast because of how useful I found them, and how happy and excited I was to use them.

Now I also know I'm a knife enthusiast because I'm in the middle of setting up a home shop to make my own knives with.

I was going back and forth between the Rift and the Contego as well.
The Contego has better steel, and a deep carry clip,,, but many think it is too large for EDC.
I've had my Rift for two years and couldn't be happier with it. I got the satin blade.

I used to carry my Adamas daily, so I'm not too worried about the Contego being larger than I would like! I think my problem is that, some days, I can't decide if I want a longer or shorter blade, and only want to carry one folder (fixed blade almost always on my belt).

Also the Contego has a glass breaker,,, so if you're not worried about the size maybe the Contego is right for you.

[edit: Old picture, now instead of a bow there's puukko parts and birch bark everywhere]

...you already have an exquisitely crafted, forged puukko in the stable and you still buy a $15 Mora. Not because you need it, but because you felt the itch.

This is excellent.

You spend more time deciding which knife to carry than what to wear..
Ya leave the house with your choice then go back and switch, get another or drop off..
Lay awake at night thinking what knife you haven't carried in a while..
Nap holding a knife in your hand and waking and finding that knife still in your grasp!!

The wife asks why you didn't stop at that hardware store to look for knives ya just passed while traveling thru a town you hadn't before.. True story.. She is an enabler!!!!! John:thumbup:

When your wife, who knew nothing about knives before, now knows almost as much as you do....

You talk to your knives.
You try to figure out the best way to carry a folder while showering.
Leave the house with two knives but then go back because you need to carry one more.

You get more upset with yourself if you forgot to take a knife with you that if you for got your smart phone.

When you show your son 3 knives and ask him which one you should EDC.

Your co workers no longer give you funny looks or get paranoid when they see you with a knife.

When you have to justify why a new knife will meet your needs when you have lots and lots of others that will do the same thing.

When you show your child one of your favorite knives and she says "Dad, they are all your favorites."

When you have a knife but you want the same knife in a different handle material, steel, grind or blade thickness. Or when you want the same type of knife but from different makers to see their versions of the same style.

...When every time you watch a show, you specifically look for a knife and miss what the show was even about. Wife asks, "What did you think about the movie"? Response,"Huh"?
