You mean "fark," right?

Doing pretty good with my work outs. Down to drinking 1-2 Pepsi's per day, and stopped buying junk food. Haven't really lost any weight, but I can see some muscle coming back I haven't seen for years. So, I guess my fat is melting, while the muscle is building. Amazing what 1 month of lifting weights can do for ya.

excellent! keep at it.

i've been moving... so far 14 car loads and almost 2 weeks. brutal. 16 + 2 + 5 step down with weight, back up for more * 20 or so per load. oof.

i think i'm stronger. less pain. more gain. appetite. sleep! woo.

I kind of like Dreamweaver -- 4 was a piece of cake to work with 10 (CS4) took some getting used to.
just got issued Net4 at work, that's going to take a bit to learn all the tricks - but it's gotta be better than Front Page was.

I like Emacs.

I liked Dreamweaver, but once I got the hang of what I was doing, it was almost easier to write it up in Notepad (++ of course) and paste it into Dreamweaver. Less stuff to clutter up the work space.

On knife related news, I have been getting my FPR BK16 (not the un-etched version) cleaned up for use since I am wanting to switch back to the saber grind. After squaring the spine, I noticed it had started to develop some strange rust along the exterior portions of the handle, so I cleaned it up and proceeded to use some bed liner to recoat it. Crazy similar to default new coating.

moening, DJ.

Derek, since I'm anti-square-spine, I've been challenged to come up with an alternative.
Please stay tuned for a batch of square spine replacements.

Why are you anti-squared spine? I am always up for learning something new, and anti-squared-spine-ism is certainly new to me. Care to elaborate?

I'm going to start squaring the spine then easing a radius on the first inch nearest the handle. I've also become anti-jimping. Evolution in action.

I used to love jumping...until I started really using my knives. Then I just found no real use for it.

I do like a nice sharp spine, however, for a fire steel.

Need a sheath for my BK7. I'm thinking Combat Master.

Not sure though, Azwelke does some good kydex.

Any suggestions?

'cause I put my thumb there a helluva lot more than a fire steel.
Figure if I have a quality striker attached permanently to my steel, there's no need to make my knife uncomfortable AND threatening. That way if I lose the steel I lose the striker too.
There's a decent chance you'll get to see an example of my spine treatment at the gathering.

I am still a big fan of jimping. Just works for me. Squared spine is my go to for a spine so I can make easy scrapings/shavings as well as get some fantastic sparks outta my firesteel. I have not yet had any issues with the squared spine though.

For a sheath, I am a fan of kydex, and Azwelke's work looks good.

Another vote for Azwelkes. Outstanding sheaths and a bunch of mounting/lashing options.

I don't like the idea of having to take another item with me just for use with the firesteel, which while it isn't going to see much use, it is essential. I haven't had any issues with my squared spine hurting my thumb though, so maybe if that happens at some point I might change my tune. My thumb doesn't go up past the jimping on my 16 very much though. Could just be different uses that I have not had to mess with yet. Or it could be my freakishly small hands.

I have one of his for my BK9 and love it, especially the belt loop he's got, freakin' awesome. I just don't like that "click" when sheathing and unsheathing kydex. Who knows, I'm so strapped for cash right now, I'll have to wait, but its fun to look.

Multicam Spec Ops is lookin' good though.

I spent an hour or so carving whistles for the grandkids recently with a lot of thumb assisted fine cuts. I was using a BHK Bushcrafter. Thumb got sore as hell from the sharp edge on the spine so I rounded that spot off. It still left a generous portion for fire steel/tinder scraping. I really don't give a crap what it looks like.

After my BHK Bushcrafter cut the hell outta me, I took a nail file to the first inch or so. Broke that edge just enough to not be so sharp.

I also use the thumb of my non-knife hand on the spine to guide the blade when cutting in wood, sometimes. But then I haven't had the Moosez class, so maybe I'm doing it wrong. :D

See that's the thing, and sort of a philosophical stance: prepare for the unlikely, or prepare for the everyday? Or a hybrid.
Also, I've cut/scraped/gouged myself so many times on "non-sharp" corners and edges of things that I'd prefer not to take a chance on having to use up my first aid supplies on stupid little injuries that could be avoided, thus being more prepared for the unlikely.

For example, I currently have 5 small slices on the back of my right index finger from what was essentially a squared knife profile. Of course I was working ON the knife, not WITH it, and was being impatient and stupid, but I figure that can happen anywhere.

IAWoodsman's counter to my argument was that the scrapers that ship with the firesteels suck. And he's right. So. There's a little hint about what I'm up to.

This is a result of a overly sharpened spine on my BHK bushcraft. Its actually less than 90 degree angle, so, it is actually a sharpened edge.

I'm also with Derek, I don't like having to take a striker with me for my firesteels.

I use a thumb assisted cut when I'm carving, it does wear the thumb something terrible if the edge is squared, and not broken.

Good idea, Trade. Rounding the last bit sounds like it would help a lot.

Moose - Eli (Godspeed) does some great custom work, too. The one he made for my BK7 had a BK14 piggyback and an ESEE pouch attached. Hanging from my belt, it rode nicely and never felt heavy. I suppose if I carried it on an expedition, the weight would start to matter!
