You never know what's underneath....

I know I'm going to upset someone with this but if I dropped $500 on a knife, coated or not, and that's what's underneath I'd be ever so slightly upset. Crap I'm upset they don't even take the 2 minutes after I assume CNC machining to run a 120 grit belt over em before coating.

If it don't bother you rock on though. They do cut like a razor.

You all should see the messages I write on the inside of some of my sheaths ;)

Great, now I'm going to have to break my new sheaths open to see what they say. That's gonna suck - how about you just put a note in the box, instead?

Both sides with the de-carb removed...

Best guess is still drunken die grinder shenanigans.... sounds fun!

I have this mental image of two Busse employees standing over the knife with a sharpie going, "no, if it had a hamon line, it'd look like _this_."

Not upset but....If it's coated, why bother putting extra steps and COST into something most won't see anyway? It's also possible that it needs to have a rough finish for the coating to adhere to. I've seen some thru the years that didn't hold the coating that seemed to have been buffed a little.
In this case, who the heck knows how or what but it's interesting.

Unless it means "Congratulations, you just won a free knife! Send this one back for replacement along with a note of which knife and color combo you want.", I'd be a little cranky about it too.

A few years ago Jerry mentioned, in one of his drunken ramblings, that he would randomly select knives to add the HOG code to. If by chance the owner were to find and crack the code Jerry would award him/her with a certain amount of shop credit which, I'm guessing here, depended on his mood at the time.

I'll try to dig up the post.

:D

It looks like all the dead ASH trees I find laying around in the woods here in MI, victims of the Emerald ASH Borer Beetle.

This can only mean one thing…… (ASH-2, cough, cough)……

Do I win?? :D

Last night, in a flash of intoxicated genius, I thought it might be a treasure map! Yeah, that's it!!! So I did my best Yellowbeard impression and followed the squiggles...

.... and wound up at the liquor cabinet! So that only sorta worked.

Good call on the ASH-2 RAD... let's hope!

I know what it is....

It's the prototype for Garth's Tatoo! :p ------ :D

Wad I win?!?!??!? ;)

It looks like someone tried to use a hand-grinder/similar and write the word "anniversary" on each side..upside down on the logo side...right side up on the non-logo side....in a cursive, spinning tool kinda way.

Perhaps it is the way all coated blades will be treated in the future, as a means of discouraging people from stripping their blades to find a clean bare blade underneath?

Any more info as to when it was purchased if you bought direct?
