You old Sod (GEC content)

Mine came pretty sharp. Sharp enough to put to work without sharpening as it came from the tube.

Maybe were overlooking the uniqueness of this knife--at least to me.

SFO (Special Factory Order) Factory Test Run in a pattern not in regualr production by the manufacturer (GEC) for a single dealer. 01 Tool Steel blade -- not a regular blade steel for GEC and delrin handles -- again not regular handle material for GEC.

Thumbs up to the dealer for making this knife possible.

Don't get me wrong Ed, mine was sharp enough to use too :). I have been since I got it. Its just not hair popping like I was getting used to from GEC. I'm seriously happy I even got a chance to get one.

Thanks for the info, folks. I am glad that it's just not sharpened to its potential rather than we get to remove a lot of metal behind the edge to make it sharp ("sharper", that is ;)). If another one gets offered up, I will definitely have to jump on one or two of them.

Absolutely Ed. The intent of my post was to say if I had to try and find 'flaws', the edge not being as sharp as it could be is about all I can come up with on mine. It certainly is a special knife and the uniqueness is certainly appreciated.

Me too. Hopefully there will be plenty of additional opportunities in the future for other forum members to enjoy this pattern.

Any possibility of another run? I'd love one, but the holidays leave my discretionary income locked up by little things like food- the joy of being a student who gets loan cash on January 3.

No, I really want too see a production run. I think more then just the traditionalists will like this knife. That why I tried to get up as much helfpful info as I could :)

But I am always going to tell it how I see it.

Talked to Bill for a good while this morning. Their heat treat requirement are 57-59 but almost always come back at 59 on the dot; this one is no different. Liners are low carbon cold rolled steel. Pivot is 125 low carbon steel with bite washer pressed on pin design.

Not having much luck finding delrin in any color other than black / natural. With the feedback on the pivot appearance and the inability to find the components in a form where we can hit the pricing goal, the project is being re-evaluated. In a day where every company wants to slap prototype or first run on every knife they can to garner collector interest; it is good to be involved in an actual Factory Test Run that was put out to answer questions and gauge real interest. Many thanks for the feedback.

Mike:

It would appear that there might interest in another run in black (i.e., a color other than orange). Whether the market would support a high priced sodbuster over the long term is the question. I think you and Bill are right to ask that question.

Switching gears, perhaps, would it be possible to but the bull nose blade shape in future #73 frame runs?

Thank you for the info Mike, I added it to the poll about the knife, hope you don't mind :)

Mike,

My .02 is that if you left the pivot as-is, and were able to just build them in black delrin, and meet the under $50 price point, you would have a winner.

I don't know what the epoxy/filler used in the test run was, but could it be dyed to match the scale color? That should improve the asthetics greatly, if that really is a concern.

Personally I like the idea of properly heat treated 01, in a stronger, better built knife than the boys in Bradford build. The "looks" are a distant second to function, and frankly, price, on a true work knife.

I hope you guys can pull it off!
