You old Sod (GEC content)

For what it is (work knife), my knife is great. The finish on my knife is very good -- excellent. The particular shade of orange on this knife knocks my socks off. Wish I'd ordered two of em. Maybe the pivot could'a been polished a tad more but after it spends some time in my pocket, nobody'll know.

The name "Bull Nose Work Knife" says it all about this knife.

Modoc ED,
There is certainly nothing wrong with your photog. skills. It's funny--some folks struggle to hide flaws, others struggle to show them in the name of full disclosure. Me? I just take the pic and it is what it is. I'm guessing you do the same.

Oh heck -- I know. I was just pulling yer string -- Kevin's too.

I've always thought that the Loveless style of grinding into the threads left the knife look kinda unfinished or over finished? People seem to like them though. The other thing to remember here is that these are the first from a factory test run. I'm optimistic that both finish and price will improve, assuming that production moves forward beyond this run.

I hope so, too. A 'factory test run' should take exactly these kinds of things into account, and set the basis for the tweaks & refinements expected in the 'regular production' version. I think they're on the right track, though, in making what appears to be an effort to strengthen the pivot on such a knife (as compared to a 'typical' press-fit rivet). It looks a bit rough around the edges, but at the same time, I'm impressed by it.

Thanks for the compliments and the quick education on what looks to be its construction. I was unaware of that type of construction. Btw, the gaps around the pivot are filled in with a black plastic like substance. There isn't an air gap there and I can feel the transitions but it feels pretty smooth running my finger over it. I picked at it with my nail a bit and it doesn't seem to be coming out either. These are just some superficial observations. I have no doubt the knife will stand up to what I need it for.

That might be epoxy. I think that's pretty common on other knives using the 'Loveless screw' type fasteners (mostly on fixed blades, for attaching handle scales to tang). Assuming it is screwed together on both sides, after everything is adjusted and tightened down, the epoxy should keep the round 'nuts' from loosening or backing off, over time. I suppose in this case, it's serving the additional purpose of filling in the surface gaps too.

And one thing I'd noticed in the pics, but didn't see any mention of it. Is it just me, or does the blade have a slight convex in the grind? That's another big plus (as far as I'm concerned ;)), if so.

A few Point and Shoot natural light shots to show what I see :)

My copy is finished amazingly. I was truly impressed when I unwrapped the wax paper. My pivot is polished to a high luster.

The knife is incredible. The liners seem to be steel to me. A great weight, a little less then my 73 Stag. Nice balance, great grip to the smooth handle. That surprised me. I can't say anything but good about this knife, especially for 62 dollars. Thanks guys, I am really glad I got one. I put a lanyard on it and its in my pocket as we speak. My 73 got a coat of oil and its with the rest of my collection :)

I thought I would add...This knife does not in any way feel or look like a 'cheap' knife in person. It beams out quality when you look at it and even more so when you handle it. The pivot is super smooth and the blade is tight. The pull is the same as my 73 stag, nice pull :)

If there is another run of these, I'd love to see one with a yellow handle.

I didn't think I would really like the orange, but I really do. Another big surprise. I would jump on one if you get the chance Chris, yellow would be nice.

Nice photos and feedback Kevin. How'd you get yours already? Looks like mine won't be here until the 27th! :(

I have no earthly clue Josh. I really got a surprise on my way out today. It will be worth the wait if yours is like mine.

Nice review and pics, Kevin. Sounds like you got a great one! Whaddya live next door to Mike and he just ran over and slipped it into your mailbox? :D

Haha! It seemed that way :) It was a great surprise and really set my day in the right direction.

Nice photos Kevin. I knew others besides myself would be pleased with this knife. A lotta bang for the buck.

We're almost out the door on the way to my Niece's house for Christmas Eve dinner and I'm not taking/carrying my new "Bull Nose Work Knife" with me because I know all my nephews, brothers-in-law and others will be wanting it. So I'll carry my Schrade Fire and Ice Trapper and start carrying the "Bull Nose Work Knife" tomorrow -- Chrismas Day.

The liners seem to be steel to me.

If you get bored, check them (away from the spring) with a magnet. If they are steel, they should show attraction.

It will be worth the wait if yours is like mine.

Based on what we've seen so far in the pictures that have been posted, it looks like the fit and finish on these is pretty darn good at this price point. Well worth the wait indeed.

A lotta bang for the buck.
No doubt about it based on what has been posted so far.

any word if there will be more made or not? I would love to get my hands on one of these

Given that this was a trial run to gage interest (at a price slightly higher than production-intent) and it sold out in a matter of days (after the knife was posted here), I'd expect to see a slightly more refined, and possibly improved, version at some point in the not-to-distant future. Depending on how many of the 'improvements' Mike chooses to incorporate the price could potentially vary either way; however, my interpretation of his comments was that the price had to be sub $50 for this program to continue. I guess we'll have to wait and see if he and GEC are able to work out the particulars to make that a reality. I sure hope they manage to do so.

Here is a little more accurate pic of the orange Josh. I just opened my blade and stuck a magnet to the liners opposite of the backspring. It stuck
