My dad likes knives and bought me my first at age 7, not as much as I do but he does like knives and has a small box of them.
Because of this I was telling him I ordered a new knife when he asked me " what did you order now ", I told him I ordered a Case I've been wanting and then he asks " how much did that cost you ".
I know exactly where this is going
I told him it was $51.97 shipped and he looks at me and says " that's too much " , I said he just doesn't think any knife is worth that much.
Then he said " well let's see this knife you spent too much on " so I show him a stock photo of the Case small Texas jack in Amber jigged bone and CV, and he looks at it then says " oh I like that, that's real nice looking ".
After seeing it he's more understanding of the price, but he's 60 and is still just used to what knives used to cost.
That is to say that he hasn't spent more than $25 on a knife in over 20 years, since his original GERBER MP he bought in the mid 90's the most I know of him spending on a knife was $20+shipping for his Vic tinker a couple years ago.
I'm sure we all know someone like this, for one reason or another they just don't feel exactly the same as you do about knives.
Maybe their only knives are in the kitchen , they carry one but don't give them much thought , or maybe they do like knives but don't know the difference in quality.
Maybe like my dad they love knives, they can at least spot total garbage when they see it, but are either cheap or just have sticker shock with regards to what they cost today.
We know a 360° likely won't happen easily, but if they at least carry a knife we can maybe light a small spark.
Maybe we get them to try a few different ones, open their eyes to at least slightly better knives, or get them to understand that knives are worth today's inflated prices.
