Yes, especially when you let features or flashy looks get you.
Put a flashy Damascus steel lockback in the case next to a sodbuster and you can get which one probably sells out quicker.

You can get a good quality knife for pretty cheap these days. It just won't be from the USA.

That being said, I have mostly USA made knives, but if all I wanted was a good knife, I'd buy a rough rider, opinel or victorinox.

Look at the Case Zytel series and caliber knives.
Then there's the Buck 110LT, 425 minibuck, 524 Alumni , and a few others that are a tad less traditional.
There are some decent US made traditional knives for under $25 but they just don't get the publicity they should ( except maybe the 110LT, that's real popular ) so you have to do a bit of looking to find them and most are smalls.
