In the NeverEnding quest to add to the collection, my next purchase I am considering between the following:

Protech tr4: I don't have an auto yet, Protech seems to be Top Notch quality in USA made with a solid warranty. All things I like. Not many people seem to have this one which kind of also intrigues me.

Emerson sheepdog bowie or cqc13: I have yet to have a bowie-shaped blade from Emerson, I am very happy with the other models I have of Emerson, however it is a liner lock.

Benchmade loco: with the larger axis lock this one screams to me toughness. However for the price I'm getting s30v still.

If it was you which one would you pick?

Loco all day. Great knife. S30 is one of my favorites. Easy of sharpening and edge retention. Good corrosion resistance. Big folder with great lock up and will take abuse. Benchmade service. All wins in my book.

ProTech without question. It's more interesting than your other choices and ProTech makes the best autos.

All are good knives. If you don't have an auto yet, that's what I'd buy.

I own a TR-4 Splash Anodized special edition. May be my best all-round auto. Solid and fires hard. If you like the look of the knife, buy it. Pro-tech makes wonderful autos, I have a few of them.

The Loco. I'd rather have S30V at it's price than 154CM at the Emerson's. That's just splitting hairs though.

If you wanna wear that "SMILE" we all get when we get a great toy, go for the Protech!

I'll echo what others have said in that if you can carry an auto go for the tr4.

Protech becaue it looks the best, seems like the best quality-wise and looks the most useful.

Other than that the Cqc 13, just because it doesnt look as bad as the rest.

If it was me I can't carry an auto and am generally averse to liner locks, so that leaves the Loco as the last man standing.

I also love the Axis lock, thumbhole openers (zipties!) and stout, practical folders.

Thanks everyone for the input so far. The protech is at the top of the list now.

I like the Protech tr4 the best out of those three. The sheepdog has become one of my favorite Emerson knives but the protech is just nicer to me.

Tough call. I have owned all but the Loco - the TR4 would get my vote if you don't see a comparable knife in the Kershaw Launch lineup that is a better deal. I traded away my TR4.3 because I decided a Launch 6 represented better value. Coming in at about $100 cheaper and using slightly superior steel (slightly, but still superior!) and having the same general amount of actual cutting surface (TR4 has a 4" blade but loses cutting surface to the choil, where the Launch has a choil-free 3.75" blade), and additionally having a lighter weight and a cooler firing button and more utilitarian blade shape... It wasn't exactly a difficult choice for me.

Basically, I would choose the TR4 but would actually choose a launch 6. You won't be disappointed by the Protech, though, if you were to choose that. I have had five Protech autos and each one was the definition of excellence.

also own all but the loco.....think i have 3 or 4 versions of the tr4, and it is a great knife, but i prefer the 13 emerson myself. sheepdog is good, but too short of a blade for my liking.

Pro Tech without a doubt!
I have 3 and they are amazing!

I vote Protech also. Everyone has to have an auto.

^ Add one more ProTech to the list!

TR-4.3 would be even better:
