Young knife collectors/users - deux

Good to hear that it's getting some love! You may wonder why it has a slightly different blade profile than the stock picture. The story is this:

The wife of the guy that PIF'ed it to me used it to pry with--she broke the tip off of it.
Her husband reprofiled the tip of a Worksharp.
The husband (forgot his screen name) gave it to me as part of the PayItForward threads.
I carried it a little, but it never really got any use.
I sent it to you as a thank you for the BK&T patch.

Now you know the full story!

Thanks for the info! I was wondering why the grind was weird. :)

How's yours look? This is mine.

Did you use a sharpmaker with strops only going as fine as the white compound?[/quote]

No, I used assorted hand stones and strops, going to .1 micron. I'm just curious to see the edge of a sharpener around my age as compared to mine, I wasn't intending offense.

Sorry, I though you were being malicious, my bad :foot::foot::o And no, my edge wasn't shiny but it did feather a hair :D

Nice! I find polish is easier on a strop with some slack to it, like an old belt.

Rennd, beautiful edges! I free hand on a spyderco fine benchstone and strop with black compound / mother mags aluminum polish. The knife is an endura in aogami super blue. :)

It's not just for show either. :)

Wow, that looks beautiful! Makes you wonder what grit that polish is, huh?
My usual system is diamond stones, ceramic rods, razor hones, then on to strops, black, grey, white, green, paste, spray. Tons of stuff. Threw this on a Lionsteel a while back.

Thanks man! I dunno, I believe the fine is supposed to be around 1,800 grit, I can't say about the black compound, it's the coarsest of the polishing compounds so I would assume it's about equivalent to a medium DMT, the mags polish is enough to get a close to perfect mirror, so it's a really really fine grit. :p I know that wasn't very informative, but it's all I've got. :o

Never had much luck with rods haha, but I do intended to get myself a couple DMT stones, and a four sided strop haha. In reality, my fine stone is barely broken in, the Endura was the fifth an last one I've done so far. That lion steel looks good BTW.

Grr. Dropped my Mini Onslaught and chipped the G10. Oh well, guess it's a user now.

I've found that, despite being coarse, the black produces a more polished edge than my 8000 grit stone. Pretty sure that a bit of give leads to a sharper edge. Old belts work magic.

I haven't finished with it, usually use it to remove the last bits if the bur and refine the edge, the polish comes from the mags. My current strop is a 12" long, 2" wide, 1/4" thick piece of pine with a strip of belt glued on, works great haha. :)

I have a ton like that, loose strops are actually better, in my opinion.

I'll have to stop into Goodwill sometime this week to find an old belt and try it!

Anybody here go to a weight room at all? I regularly go up to my schools weight room after school.

Mr Muscles.

To answer your question, nope. My school usually only lets people in there during Phys Ed periods.

EDIT:

I remember what Jason told us in the last thread, this is a knife forum.

Should I save for a Cruwear Military or a Titanium?

I'd say it's a better idea to go for the cruwear. Sure, titanium is cool, but it's primarily cosmetic. You'll notice a real difference with the cruwear blade.
