Your #1 Top Pick in a 3-4" folder

I love my Axis locking BenchMade 420 Resistor but I hate the blade steel. I also really like my personally upgraded and modified Salt 1 but the steel again doesn't meet all my criteria for being great, although it does resist rusting quite well.

I have an old Gerber Sportman lock back folder (see pic) from before Fiskars got involved with the company and screwed everything all up. At the time, when I bought this great little folder I thought it was the holy grail of all knives and it has the wear to prove it, but then a guy named Sal had to go and make a knife with a hole in the blade to make it a easy opener with one hand and a pocket clip to boot to mess that all up.

Before that I used this Gerber knife for every chore you can use a knife for and the 440C steel blade has never let me down. When I first saw it I had to have it. I have several of its brothers in various models of the same style and type in both brass and stainless in mint unused condition. Some very rare because I just loved the slim lines and the overall quality back when Gerber was doing things right.

So, it would be a toss up for me to pick my number one but I suspect it is one of those old Gerbers.

I'm still looking for the folder I just can't live without on todays market. If I thought I could make that old Gerber into a one hand opener and put a pocket clip on it that may still be the closest thing to perfect for me but so far my search has been 45 some odd years long since it probably began when my Grandfather gave me my first pen knife and I realized it was too small.

I'll let you know when I find it but don't hold your breath. Everytime, just when I thought I found the holy grail of all knives someone would go and invent another great idea and the new standard it set would move the bar up.

I've found my SOG Trident TF-3 to be a pretty good general purpose pocket knife, and the price is not outrageous.

What are you kidding or something?
There's only one answer.
Sebenza.
Bomb proof and great customer support.
Great blade shape, fixed blade lockup, S30V gets wicked sharp and holds it for a long time, slim profile, wicked cool industrial looks.
But, it is expensive.

I cannot pick between my Spyderco/Terzuola StarMate & MicroTech LCC Manual, with the BenchMade SwitchBack running very, very close behnd.

Didn't know Sebbies were going for $200 or less ;)

I am a Spyderco guy, but the BM 710 probably squeaks into the #1 spot because of the lock.

Check out the Spydero Lum Chinese Folder for a great knife in your price range that's different from all the blacktical (I just made up that word) recommendations.

Does anyone have a knife they just absolutely love in the 3-4" range in a folder which is a current production knife in the $200.00 or less price range?

In that price range I'd take a BM Gravitator or Grip(in S30V or 440) or a SAK. And I could get them all for $200 if I shop right.

One of my EDC's lately is the Benchmade Mini-Skirmish. You can pick one up for around $177 (e.g., at knifecenter.com). It is a wonderful knife with very clean lines and smooth action and S30V steel blade.

Truely hate with a passion the axis lock (seen one grind to a halt with sand in it) so I would/do carry virtually anything by Emerson.
