Your advice on a first Emerson folder...

I really do not like any coatings on a blade. But, with Emerson, that's what you get. Although, Emerson now offers a stone-washed Satin.
The Mini, is legal anywhere, is correct. But I don't have to worry about that so I carry the original CQC-7.
Post some pix.

IMO coatings must be viewed up close for one to decide if they really don't like them. I've never been a fan of coatings until my first Emerson, a Snubby. After seeing it up close and using it I actually will go for coatings from now on.

The coating on my Mini Commander seems very durable. I'll try it out for awhile, and see how it works out. Emerson does a very nice job with it IMO. It's very smooth!

Well just came across a mint 2009 Mini CQC-7 on another forum for $110 shipped and pulled the trigger - too good to pass up considering I was very close to ordering the 7 a few days ago.

Its coated so I'll get a chance to compare it to my uncoated Horseman when it hopefully arrives tomorrow :D

I guess that settles that!

Thanks again for all the help and advice on here - you guys rock! I need to spend more time on these forums.

Stop waiting.
I told you plonkers that I did NOT Krein my latest Emerson, a CQC-7BW.
Neener!! :p

Thanks for the info guys - I will see how I like the factory edges and then we shall see about some Krein surgery :D

Just curious - what would you guess the cost to be for putting a new edge on the mini cqc7?

Was expecting the horseman today but no luck

If you get to Tom K to regrind your knife it will be $45 all in for any blade under 4",
I'm not sure what the charge is for just sharpening a knife though.

Horseman showed up today and it is beyond wonderful - great blade shape and handle. What a tank of a knife!

Smaller than I thought and now has me wondering if the cqc8 would be a better size. Oh well. Does the extra half inch on the blade even really make a difference?

Already cut my finger while practicing the wave feature for my first time - didn't even notice I had a 1/4 inch slice on the inside of my middle finger until 30 seconds later :D Got it now and what a great feature.

Now just to wait for the mini 7...

Thats boyee, Harry!
Does 1/2 inch make a diff?? Nah.
You got it bad...and that's good.

Some bad news: noticed that the blade on my Horseman scrapes against the liner before it closes... there is already a mark in the finish. Needless to say its going back tomorrow for another one :(

Quick question - do you guys know if the liners on the CQC-8 are thicker than the Horseman? Also, is the blade bigger from top to bottom or is the difference just the length of the blade? Thinking since the Horseman is going back maybe I'll give the CQC-8 a try...?

On the other hand, mini 7 is here and I love it - perfect size and crazy build! So far I don't mind the grind. Its interesting how much smoother the action and lockup is as compared to the Horseman...

Thanks again for helping me out!

Lycosa you are a bad (read: good) influence! You told me in another thread that I needed a new knife. I don't have a lot to spend, so what do I do? I find a used mini 7 on the secondary market. Should be here in 3-10 days. It will be my first EKI as well.
