Your best Cheapskate buy of 2022

ETA: I suppose this is a “best deal” of the year for me not me being cheap. Lol

Likewise. My "best buy" was not cheap, but it was a deal. This past Nov picked up a LNIB Manix 2 XL for $125 to my door. BNIB at an online retailer runs $175 + tax.

Does the MAM swell when wet and stiffen up like the Opinel?

Yes it does.

I usually sand/whittle my Opinels down to have more comfortable contouring, then soak the handle in hot beeswax for several hours to try to seal the wooden handle (it's kind of a fun process as i can see a bunch of tiny air bubbles seeping from the handle). Afterwards it's usually pretty well sealed and doesn't swell much at all.

I haven't done this process yet with the MAM as I'm still mulling over what to do with it. Not much handle material to fiddle with, so probably just a light sanding, a wax bath and maybe a few more light taps on the pivot.

I'm sure I could just buy a slightly more expensive knife that doesn't need light taps, sanding, and a spa bath. But I'd rather be penny wise (sometimes).

Divo Knives Growler - most likely the first & last knife purchase of 2023. (Surprised and very happy with the fit/finish on this one.)

my best deal / highest cost to benefit ratio, was a forum pickup - a Manly City in s90v.
I cant get over how amazing this thing is. I kind of hate it because it negated so many other knives at much higher price points I have.
anyway, got it for a great price and am well pleased.
