Your Dream Knife?

Try the Rough Rider, or one of the Frost versions. I think the Rough Rider "Zombie Nick" version can still be had at a couple places online. (Zombie Nick is a sleeveboard, though, not an equal end)
The Sunfish is an old pattern, suprisingly versitile.
I tried the small ones, didn't care for it.

Thanks. Any idea what steel RR uses on those?

Since imagination is the only limit here is my at present non-existent knife. It would be on a Case 6292 Texas Jack style frame CPM 154 3" clip main with a long pull and nice swedge. Wharncliff secondary about 2 1/8" with a nail nick. Long pinched nickle silver bolsters, bareheaded with Stainless liners and titanium pins. Snakewood covers with a pinned shield fashioned like a Gibson Les Paul guitar. If anyone knows where I can get one of these for $100 or less let me know. :D

Right now? My dream knife is a Coffin Jack with ebony covers and an endcap, with a "delicate" spear primary and a coping secondary.

Alternatively I'd like an ivory penknife, with clip and coping, equal end, about 3 and a half inches long.

Stainless clip blade soda scout in natural canvas micarta.

....and a 57 halfwhitt just case anybody has one laying around ;)

Thanks. Any idea what steel RR uses on those?

They are marked "440" so probably a 440A or equivelent. What ever it is, it holds an edge quite well. I had to carve a seasoned oak board to make a missing part for the cabinet in my truck, to keep the cutting board retracted. I used my sunfish. I did not have to sharpen it before, during, or after the carving. I had to thin the oak from an inch to just under 1/4 inch to clear the latch on the sliding cutting board.
It really didn't need it, but I did strop the blade on an old leather belt, after I finished.
I have other Rough Riders, never had a problem with edge retention on them, either.

You have great tastes!
A coffin Jack in the 3 5/8" range with coping blade in ebony... Come to think of it, I would just like one of the case Bose coffin jacks in something like o1 steel and a coping blade. That would be a dream come true.
I also wouldn't mind a GEC 15 with clip and coping, end caps, and cocobolo or another dark figured wood.
One more, a 66 with a clip and (you guessed it) coping blade, end cap, and some nice dark random jigged bone.

►3-spring cattle knife pattern. 3 5/8" closed (equal end)
►Drop point, Sheepsfoot, and pen blades, configured as Buck does with the sheepsfoot opposite the main. No crinking of the blades.
►154CM, 440C or similar stainless at 59-60 HRC.
►spring strength, a 5.
►ebony covers & silver nickel bolsters

For me it would be pretty much a GEC 83 pattern lockback with some ebony covers that are not black but brown with light brown streaks. I have a GEC 73 with that kind of Macassar Ebony and it is beautiful. Blue denim micarta is a close second for a cover material.

Put a clip point blade on it made out of M2 blade steel.

Make it a shadow pattern too so I can see more of the wood.

3 7/8 sowbelly made by one of my favorite knife makers. Sambar stag covers (of course), sowbelly shield (of course), and adamantium steel (;))

Folder: I'd like a GEC 92 Eureka Jack pattern, upsized about 30% with a single clip blade and bolsters in 52100 with a deep crimson burl handle.

Fixed: The TOPS B.O.B., bolstered, with the same materials as the folder and a higher hollow grind.

That would be an equal end pattern 3 1/2 to 3 3/4 inches in ebony with tip bolsters and rectangular shield (I think Chuko or Chief had one made by Ken Erickson?, pics welcomed.) edited to add: found it, I was wrong it is in ptradeco's avatar !!
3 blades Long thin spear or Turkish clip main for the knife to be comfortable when using the secondaries, those would be a not very tall wharncliff and a scimitar blade
649F2A60-ED0E-4E46-A4F2-AA8E8084A173_zpsdoshhuji.jpg

around 1 1/2" long, grinded to a zero grind slightly convex for gliding through the wood.
Whittler or stockman configuration.
Ideally forged 52100 or O1 steel

I would like to see a knife similar to the Case Trapperlock with a mid back lock instead of the liner lock. I would like to have something like Elmax or even S35VN for the blade, titanium frame, and black ebony for the scales. You can take my money now.
Another take on this is the current Boker Urban Trapper. I would like this knife with the same features as above: mid back lock, ELmax or S35VN, black ebony scales, titanium frame.

I'll add a GEC #66 Calf Roper Slim with 440C (clip and pen) blades. I don't think they ever made one? Add Northfield trim and elk handles and would be perfect! Might be the last pocket knife I'd ever need.

I used to own a #68 White Owl with 440C, Elk covers, and clip and pen blades. Very close to what you describe except for the serpentine frame and maybe the Northfield trim. The GEC website says they made 35 serialized and 44 unserialized. 681212 is the pattern number.

One of those might hold you over while you wait for GEC to make your dream knife. That is, if you could find one.

Good point Rick, the White Owl is an excellent option.
Here's my Light Tan, one of five made.

I believe Mod Frank has an Elk version? i could be mistaken though...

Thanks, Will

Thanks for the photo, Will. I couldn't remember if the Elk White Owl I used to own had pinched bolsters or not and your photo solves that mystery. I miss that knife now that I've started thinking about it again. :(

I think my dream knife would be a WT, like the Case-Bose collaboration below, but made by Mr. Tony Bose. That would work!

I'm a fan of Dawson Knives and traditional Finnish puukko pattern. So, since you are the OP, I'll say I'd like to see Dawson come up with something in that direction. Full Scandinavian grind, no ricasso, no finger guards, rhomboid blade shape optional but would be nice, longer blade in the tommi style, traditional sheath (not a Kydex fan, sorry). I'm not a nut for batonning in my bushcraft, preferring an axe, tomahawk, or hatchet for that work, but a Dawson puukko would be something you could really beat on!

I've been so relieved recently because I found my perfect knife in a Fiddleback mid-tech Kephart. I love it so much that I've been selling off most of my collection. The only other would be my TM Hunt Yuma.
