I keep thinking about this thread. It's a tough call. My favourite knives are all users, so I think that my dream knife would combine functionality and the artistic touch and skill of a maker whose work I respect.
The knife I am most attached to is my little EDC scandi, which I made from a 'cobbler's knife'. My 'dream EDC' would be the same shape, and follow the same profile, only it would be hand-crafted by a maker with a real affinity for scandi grinds. Instead of stock removal, it would be hand forged, with forge markings on the flats. The handle material is a tough one - perhaps a nice curly maple or bog oak, with simple but complimentary pins. The pouch sheath (with matching knife lanyard) would be simple, but well-executed, perhaps with a bit of embellishment in the form of some traditional Scandinavian motifs.
But if such a knife were to come into my possession tomorrow, I would still find it tough to give up my EDC - we have a history together!
Beyond that, I have to say that Magnussen's (Wildertools) designs really speak to me, from an aesthetic / functional art perspective. A 5" belt knife or 7" camper with matching sheath by Rick would occupy pride of place in my collection.
If we move away from knives for a second, I often daydream about hitting the trails with an axe made by North River Custom Knives, as I think they do terrific work. Something in the 20" range, with a 3.5" cutting edge and a bit of heft, plus traditional stylings (

All the best,
