Your Dream Knife?

After a bit of thought. Something like this "Hog Bowie" by SDS. ATS-34 I believe. One day I can afford a custom.

A Croc Dundee bowie for me - I can't afford it and have no need of it - I just want one :)

A Bill Moran custom!

Check out the Moran Style handle on this Bowie Mike Stewart recently made for me.

The “Rio Grande” blade shape is based on a design that Mike and Bob Loveless developed, but was never produced.

This knife is one of about ten “Rio Grande” Bowies that Mike made as part of a run of big Bowies (the rest being either spear points or clip points).

Mine is the only one with that Moran Style handle.

It is also unique because it has no swedge, keeping the weight balance as forward as possible for maximum chopping efficiency.

Though big, this knife weighs only 16 ounces, it is very fast and light in hand.

Darn it Big Mike, you gotta stop posting like that. That Bowie is awesome.

Making me feel bad about my meager BRKT collection.

Scott Gossman just had to post my new dream knife.

That too.:D. Strange that I don't have the EWOK or the Bushcraft. I have a couple of Johns that are close to the EWOK size.

Very strange since I have an EWOK because of you. I use my EWOK for everything. I love the size and the workmanship.

Far too many to choose from!

Brian Goode's
works look superb! For the longest time as well, I've been lusting after an Orange-handled Bark River Canadian Camp Knife BUT this recent model by Rick/Magnussen's really caught my eye!

Rustic, functional, simple and with my ideal dimensions as well -

I keep thinking about this thread. It's a tough call. My favourite knives are all users, so I think that my dream knife would combine functionality and the artistic touch and skill of a maker whose work I respect.

The knife I am most attached to is my little EDC scandi, which I made from a 'cobbler's knife'. My 'dream EDC' would be the same shape, and follow the same profile, only it would be hand-crafted by a maker with a real affinity for scandi grinds. Instead of stock removal, it would be hand forged, with forge markings on the flats. The handle material is a tough one - perhaps a nice curly maple or bog oak, with simple but complimentary pins. The pouch sheath (with matching knife lanyard) would be simple, but well-executed, perhaps with a bit of embellishment in the form of some traditional Scandinavian motifs.

But if such a knife were to come into my possession tomorrow, I would still find it tough to give up my EDC - we have a history together!

Beyond that, I have to say that Magnussen's (Wildertools) designs really speak to me, from an aesthetic / functional art perspective. A 5" belt knife or 7" camper with matching sheath by Rick would occupy pride of place in my collection.

If we move away from knives for a second, I often daydream about hitting the trails with an axe made by North River Custom Knives, as I think they do terrific work. Something in the 20" range, with a 3.5" cutting edge and a bit of heft, plus traditional stylings (http://www.north-river-custom-knives.com/custom-tomahawks.html).

All the best,

- Mike
