Your Emerson Story

I have come to Emerson quite late in the game, with the majority of my earlier purchases going to Spyderco, Benchmade, Kershaw, Buck and Cold Steel. From these early knives, the one that stands out is the Spyderco Military. I thought that I had found the ultimate knife, until I got an Emerson CQC-10 that is.

The CQC-10 fits my hand like no other knife I have and the solid build out of proven quality materials just screams that it is a 'down to business' knife. Frankly, I have been absolutely amazed with the strength and build quality that Emerson puts into it's knives and at this point in my life, I will be sticking with Emerson, quite possibly the best production knives made.

Better than playing the slots, least you come home with something in your pocket. :p:D

You got that right for sure! I don't play those things anyhow.. Thanks for all the info found on these forums. Nice place here! Thanks amen74 for the vote of confidence as well.

Thanks for the up beats on the CQC-10, I've been waffling between the Horseman and the 10. The ten wins this round,Horseman later.
Must Call Jay@ W&W to gets me one :D

I have owned most of the names in production knives except for Emerson. I don't mean to rub anyone the wrong way, but I just got tired of the knife of the month club with Spyderco, BM and the others. So I went back to the simple things. Slipjoints. That entertained me for a long time and still does. I got bored one weekend and started poking around in forums I had never been in. Emerson being one of those. I was impressed by the simple devotion to the brand. Not because of the new items EKI may be introducing but because they just plain and simply make a good no frills knife. I spent time in the Emerson website and anywhere I could gather information. Then I decided to purchase one. I was stumped in my decision as to which to get. I posed the question here in a thread and was impressed that I didn't get 20 different answers. Basically I got the same response. "It doesn't matter bro, which ever one you get will be great" I was sold. Got a CQC-7A and could not be happier. Actually the fact that $$$ is tight because of being laid off at present is good, it has prevented me from buying a couple more right away and gives me the chance to appreciate this one. When things get a tad better economically I will own a couple more for sure. That is my story. Sorry if it's a repeat of someone else's.

:D

Great story Baba!

I can relate to your story, re knife of the month club :p after a while a fella gets tired of having to keep up with the in knife crowd. At this point I could keep about three of my Spidies, and three Emersons, and that would be all I would need. Although highly unlikely scenario for this ole bugger. ;)

The only Spyderco I own today is a Micro Dyad. I don't even own a BM anymore though I would like to score a full size Skirmish someday.:D:thumbup: I have several great Bucks I will always own. Then some odds and ends. But the 7A for some reason seems to be the Nirvana I have been looking for. I always worried about damaging or disfiguring my other High End Production knives, but not this Emerson! I look for things to slash and hack away at with it. I have been going back and forth between it and a ZT0350 every few days. Though the ZT is a stout folding knife, I feel SO darned good the days I have the 7A in pocket. it's that simple.

:D

Ditto! I have found myself using my Emerson without reservation, whereas other brands just don't give me that sense of security that I get with Emerson.

Oh ya, DC50, you are going to love the CQC-10. Tell Jay that AL tipped you over the edge. ;)

@ Baba - I really identify with that 'Knife of the Month' concept. I too have been trapped into 'too many, too soon'. The only other knives that I get a true sense of value and pride of ownership with, are my Buck 110 knives.

Another knife that begs to be used are Busses. The INFI just says; USE ME!

I think I first heard the name Emerson in Dick Marcinko's book. Like many others, I had been a fan of Spyderco's, Benchmade's, Kershaw's, etc. for years but when I heard this praise over something called a CQC-7 my interest was certainly piqued. Plus, I wanted something a bit more substantial. I used to beat the piss out of my $60 knives and then just forget about them, so this time around I wanted to be sure that I was getting something that would last.

Ironically, around that same time, a friend from Krav Maga brought in some Karambit trainers for us to play with. Well that lead to me going home and ordering an Emerson Karambit folder. I got that and loved it. The craftsmanship was like no other knife I had ever owned or handled. Unfortunately, the Karambit didn't suit me for EDC so I began looking at some of the others EKI's in the lineup. Shortly after, I ordered a CQC7-A.

Two weeks later I had a Mini 7, a Persian and a La Griffe and now I have an HD-7 on the way. :D

Greaves--- Cool. You brought this thread back up. Enjoy your Emersons.

i dont really remember my first exposure to eki, but my first fto carried a benchmade 970st. i do know handling that one a bit let to me buying a couple more 7's and dusting off my '99 7.

ive owned, sold, and traded many over the years, but still have: 7, 8, 13, persian, and a hand ground 45.

Well I am really new to Emerson, but Ill still share :). Anyways, I really got into knives a couple years ago and thats when I heard about Emerson. I was looking for a great edc, and I looked at BM, Spyderco but also came across Emerson. Some of the designs including the cqc 7, the 8, the 10 and A100 caught my eye. However, I heard so much crap about framelocks it kind of turned me off. On these forums, I also saw quite a few complaints about Emerson knives failing. In anycase, the chisel grind seemed a little odd to me and I just wasnt sold on it and kind of put emerson out of my eyes. Many knives later, I looked into them about a year or so ago. I again really looked closely at the a100. I was really close to getting one, but again the chisel grind thing turned me off and I didnt pull the trigger and went for the spyderco paramili instead.

Anyways, a couple weeks ago, i was checking out these forums and another green forum and took a look at emerson once again. I found out about the stonewash finish they started using and thought "damn, these knives look great!". I am a HUGE fan of stone wash, and I decided to finally pull the trigger on the a100. I got the knife beside me as I write this and I love it.

I may not pick up another emerson for a while, but I really am happy with the a100. I would love to get the cqc 7 with a drop point blade, but cant find any of those guys around.

Wow, I can ramble sometimes:)

Thanks Mark. Guys, write Mark's Emerson #'s down.
Thal--- Thanks for the post. You didn't ramble.

I traded a BM 710 for a CQ7 and the rest is history...I "liked" the 710 but I sure like the Emerson's for sure better...don't ask me why I have 11 of them now.....;)
