Your "end of your life" traditional pocket knife

It will probably be this Winchester whittler for me. It just screams "grow old with me".

This is also the one my 2 year old daughter refers to as "Pappa Knife", and she likes to pick it up off of wherever I have set it down (closed of course) and bring it to me and say "Here go Pappa"

I'll most likely meet my demise when the pile of knives and boxes and such collapses on me. They'll find me with a swiss army knife, most of the implements out, as I tried to decide what tool I needed to free myself. "Here lies Blaine. He should have used the package hook."

Blaine, that literally made me laugh out loud. I always wondered what the package hook was for. Now I know.

Coincidentally, I think my knife is going to be the one I just sent money to Blaine for. The pony jack. If my wife wouldn't have offered to buy it for me for Christmas, is likely have told you it would have been the clip Charlow in saw cut red bone. But, since I have the pony jack on the way, I oiled the joints and blades and liners on the Barlow and put a fresh edge on it in preparation for placement in the tube for a hair over a seven year sleep. It will be going to my son on his 10th birthday, along with the story of the wonderful man who gifted it to me. Of course, it may not last. I'm awfully attached to this little knife. Awfully attached.

I plan on living forever but if I had to go, most days my GEC #54 Big Jack would be along for the ride!

Now needless to say a pic of this Pony Jack is required... !! :)

That's cool you're saving that Barlow for your son. Great idea.

I haven't been a knifeknut all that long I guess and my collection has never been huge, but my GEC #15 clip/pen bearhead in ebony was my first slipjoint and in another month or two will have had it a whole year. Not long I know, but it is my favourite and the one I'm most attached to. I'll carry my other knives but if the 15 isn't in my watchpocket when I leave the house I feel really weird, regardless of what other knife I have. I can carry other knives, but they have to be in addition to my 15. Blade's already a bit narrower than when I got it, but now that I've gotten better at sharpening and starting to get a handle on stropping the blade wear should slow down a lot, so hopefully it'll be there when I finally go (still a long way to go being only 28).

I'm tempted to get another, scratch that, I *will* get another, in rust red, the only question is whether I'm getting barehead or cap end, but it'll be a clip blade almost certainly. Trying to decide if I want a single blade for easier pinchability (as I'd want to hold onto and use it for decades and that pinchability could come in handy) but I think it'll have the pen blade. I like single blades, but on the 15 I think the pen is essential since my favourite has a pen.

Anyways, it's my precious.

Oh, there will be pictures aplenty! Figure, maybe a week or so. Hopefully before the new year, but I took forever getting the money over to him with sickness, illness, and injury happening over here, it may be a bit later. Patient man, that Blaine.

I'm the same way with my 55. I have a couple others that will alternate as my "#2" but the 55 is always #1. It's like I'm incomplete without it.

quite honestly, i am pretty sure my end of life knife is going to be my wenger SI
all this jazz about my new years resolution is pure..jealousy.

my wenger SI is in my pocket probably 95% of the time either as a solo knife or a second knife. but but but ...it doesnt have no pretty patina, no mellowing bone scales, no darkening of the blade. Its just so..sterile. So entirely useful and sterile. I dunno. If i took all the emotion out of it, it does dang near anything i could ever ask of it and still has options if i ever need it.

I think i read too many of Carl's posts :D

yes, i admit it. I have a problem

That there is a classic in it's own right.

Yes me too :D Very good Blaine :)

Yes Jack.....I too would give that some serious consideration.....FES

I wish I had one to send you Fes, because I think it would be right up your street

Probably one of these. Recent acquisitions but one or the other is in my pocket daily. Been carrying either the Schrade 108OT or Craftsman 9473 since I got them. Craftsman is in my pocket now.

But every single day, regardless of what is in my pocket, there is a Vic Farmer on my belt.

There's just something about ubiquitous inexpensive working man's knives the likes of Camillus, Schrade, and Vics that really do it for me. Of the above, the Victorinox was the most expensive. If I recall correctly, it cost me 32 bucks. The Craftsman cost me $15 shipped, and I traded a Gerber I found for the Schrade.

At first, I thought it would be this SAK:

After all, my 3 kids know this one as my "lucky knife." It was in my pocket during their births, plus during a couple successful job interviews, etc. Whenever I need a little dose of extra mojo, I always make sure it's in my pocket.

But then, I thought I'd rather leave that one with my son.

Instead, I think I'll ride that train to glory with this Old Timer 33OT in my pocket:

When my grandfather passed away in the early '90s, it was among his things, brand new, still in the box. It had been a gift from the kids at the school where he volunteered (he lost an arm in WWII and thus never carried a folder again, though I'm certain he never pointed this out to "his kids"). I got the knife and have carried it off and on ever since and I always think of Pop when I do.
