Wanted to see what everyone turned to when they knew they would be abusing their knife. The knife that's been through it all. For me it's my XM-18 3.5" :D

Buck Strider. Not expensive and takes a beating.

That's a pretty expensive Beater, for me a beater knife is something I don't mind scraping metal, pretty much thrashing, If an XM-18 is that for you, more power to you.
I put this Native through anything and I don't care what happens to it

IMO, I see a difference between beater and abuse. For example, I have my Ontario Afghan and 18" heavy duty machete, my landscaping tools. They cut and chop up roots, pry up old weed barrier cloth, strip wire, and the other heavy chores around the house. Ontario's 12" Cutlass machete, @ 1/8" thick is pretty tough as well.
My ESEE Lite Machete is thinner, and used for smaller limbs, trimming certain bushes, and the lighter jobs.
My Ontario RD Hawk has been used very hard as well, I've thrown it at trees, beat those same trees till the bark fell off. (No living trees were hurt)
I have pryed, scraped silicone and glue, and cut wire with my Boker Cop tool, it's not the best steel, but it's another inexpensive yet usefull tool. That one was great for doing work at banks. It's a fixed blade, but not a weapon. I'd also have my Klein electricians knife, $12 from hardware stores.
I have much more expensive knives, but reserve those for camping, and the outdoors, or everyday EDC. I let my cheap blades do the beater jobs.

it depends on the amount of abuse, if i need to chop whack or pry things i go for CS Spartan. if i am going to cut up a bunch of wire or roots or something, i go with the serrated Native

I don't really abuse my knives too much. As far as work them hard now that is another story, but I always use good sense when using a pocket knife. I know its limitations.

As far as a knife that I don't mind pounding on things with it would be this...

To me, this is what they are made for.

for heavy use edc, my big CRKT M16-14ZSF. I know how to treat knives when collecting, but I have beaten this thing to
death 4 times over, done everything to this knife that you shouldn't do to a folder and it just keeps going. its a tank.

BTW I took this pic when the knife was new so it doesn't currently look as good now, as it did when I took this pic.

Gotta admit - I've done things with my old Kershaw green Scallion - and then a Spydie Native - that I would never subject a Buck 110, let alone any of my Benchmades, to - for sure. One fall day, years ago, I had to splice a pinhole leak in my water service's plastic tubing feed. I finshed filling in the hole in the dark - and was digging it up by first light - there was my little green Scallion in the bottom of the hole - next to the splice! I had to completely dissect it to get rid of the gritty feel. The Native was grabbed to debur a hole... in sheet steel. The S30V did chip - at the end. It chipped again when I used it as a screwdriver... I slightly reshaped it with a belt sander/grinder - then sharpened it - looks 'natural' - until you compare it to my unused 'backup' (They were <$40 at WallyWorld, once upon a time!).

Now - for grabbing a knife to reduce a shipping box (cardboard - no metal staples!) - or cut out a coupon for lunch - ie, a proper knife cutting task - I grabbed a Buck 110; BM 630, 710, or, lately, a 755; or a ZT-0551, depending on the time. They were my then current EDC's.

I ordered a 5.11 backpack and LA Police gear sent me one of their cheap knives. I decided to sharpen it up and use it for yard work. After sharping it this knife is one of if not the sharpest knife that I have. It is a liner lock I don't know how strong it is but damn this thing is sharp!

This CRKT Minimalist gets used for the rough and nasty jobs.

My Spyderco Ladybug on my keys also gets used pretty hard.

I've got a 12" blade Bowie knife that I bought at a gun show for $10 that gets all of the abuse associated with farm work. It's lasted an amazingly long time and stood up to the abuse very well so far.

I have several knives that I switch in and out of my pockets on different days or occasions, but there is only one that I can truly call my "EDC." My Ontario Rat 1 is my work knife and without fail, it goes in my pocket... every single day that I go to work.

I usually drop one of my slippies in my other pocket, but that RAT knife goes with me without a doubt. It is definitely a "beater" but it has never been abused. I don't pry with it or use it as a screwdriver, but if I need to cut or scrape something... it is always there for me. I see no reason to beat up one of my more expensive knives when this little $28 "tool" is perfect for the job.
