Your Favorite Camping Pot/Kettle

I am a HUGE fan of the MSR Stowaway pots. All sizes. They work great for me. I guess they are considered heavy though.

River-8 tell us more about the bags holding your kit! Home grown?? Awesome well used kit. I likey!

PanzerTroop,

Did an earlier thread, but it looks like some of the pics are missing
Anyway they are home brewed, and do get out a bit...

Turns out there may now be a nesting Titanium cup for the Nalgene ss bottle!

Ongoing quest...

No love for the Irish Kettles? It's an ultra-efficient emberlit stove and a kettle all in one, so you'd think people would be all over them.

I've actually never used one...never even held one. But the idea is very intriguing and I figured someone around here would have one as their pick.

I can see the limitation in that they can only be used to boil water, but that's 90% of all the "pot cooking" I do.'

Perhaps if I used one I'd know why they're not more popular.

They're ridiculously heavy for what they do. I've just looked up the weights of two different brands and got a 1.1 ltr one at 2.18 lbs and a 1.3 ltr one at 1.76 lbs.................If I want to go with just water to drink or to tip into a food bag I'm going light, and these are very much pulling in the opposite direction. If I'm going heavier and doing proper cooking then I have all my tools so these are redundant....................I could have some fun with one for a bit as a novelty item, especially if used with my secateurs because they make getting little bits of stocky wood (rather than bird's nest thick twigs) an optimal length very efficient. I think of them as more of a Neo-Bushcraft thing than something actually useful to me....................ADDED: The lightest one of those two exceeds the weight of my three copper bottomed stainless pans and aluminum kettle combined.

Also greatly exceeds the combined weight of my Emberlit stove and stainless billy.

The MSR stowaways seem to be getting a heavy nod here. I was eyeballing them the last time I went through my prefered outdoor goods supplier. Looks like I'll grab one next time through. I was farting around today and put out a few snares basicly just following one minor rabbit trail. And I replaced the crap wood that I kept in my trunk with something better today. A few flakes turned into a near white out four hours later on the drive home. My little kettle gives two cups of tea. The Primus pot is small but will do two dried noodle packs. I am already getting tired of those. Maybe I'll experiment with bigger pots and more interesting meals as winter goes on. I liked your rice and chicken post Miswalker. I aspire to that level eventualy.

Threads like this are why I enjoy and appreciate this site. My Titanium Emberlit with pouch and cross bar are ordered. Now the hunt is on for a small cooking pot. I've even debated getting a kettle. So many options, so interesting. I'm going to grab something today. Lord knows what I'll come back with. The prep is as much fun as the execution sometimes. :D

I've been looking at the Emberlit too. Is the cross bar part of the Emberlit kit?

Upnorth, which part of Canadia you in? Which supplier stocks them? MEC doesn't, from what their website shows.

Wholesale Sports, going there today and grabbing an MSR pot. The Emberlit was found on the net and ordered directly from the supplier in Utah I believe.

Sweet, I'll be down in the area of Wholesale Sports today. Have to swing by.

I also got my Emberlit straight from the source. :)

Cool. I grabbed some toys today. Now I'll have to see what I can burn all to rat shizzz in them.
Noticeable weight increase over my other containers, but not that bad. Material is a sturdy gauge.

He's a nice enough guy, Manitou or whatever his avatar is. I have burned the living hell out of this stove many times now and it's fine.

Heh, you got the little one and the big one. I got the mid-size. Also picked up a GSI Ketalist from MEC.

Jeez, I didn't know that there was a middle size. I just grabbed what was on the shelf. I tried to do a little bannock biscuit in the small pot. I knew that it would be trouble without a decent ground fire coal bed to moderate the heat. No biggy. I wasn't that impressed with the slight flexing of the handle on the 1.6 L. pot when less than half filled with water though. Maybe the sliding tabs will help in this regard, will have to experiment. Thank the Lord for noodle packs or my big gut would have been empty out there this morning. Found my E-6 today :D , it had fallen between some storage tubs.

I will check out that GSI , I think that's what my little kettle was, can't remember. I like MEC. No surprises and reasonably quick shipping. Thanks for the heads up on the Ketalist.

FYI---There are 4 sizes of MSR stowaway pots. They do not all fit inside the next one bigger. I store stuff inside of them. I use a clean dish towel/dish cleaning cloth to keep them from rattling or some clean wash cloths or what ever suits you. In the Army, clean socks were the ticket to keep your mess lit & utensils from making noise.
