4 or bigger. I can do all that the smaller blades can do with the bigger blade and more that the smaller blades cant do.

I think this depends heavily on hand / overall body size. I find most knives over 4.5" in blade length to be hard to use as cutting tools for general EDC. It's a lot easier to cut tape with a Volt II than a 0600, you know? Less to maneuver around, more agile, easier to get the right angle in my experience - but that might just be a physical thing, as I'm only 5' 10" and have midsized hands.

I like a small blade under 2" paired with a larger 3.5-4" blade.

Yes. This. It's why I always have a small slipjoint with me to accompany my 3.5-4.5" folder... And usually a fixed blade to round things out.

With a few exceptions (DPX HEST, Spyderco Yojimbo2) all of my folders are 3" or less.

3.25 - 3.75 inches is my sweet spot for non-slipjoint folders. For slipjoints, I typically like the +/- 3 inch blade of a Lanny's Clip.

I answered with respect to folders. The shortest blade that I carry is a PM2, the longest is a Military.

In terms of the blade, my current EDC, a small Insingo has such a useable blade from heel to tip that 2.97 inches feels more like 3.25+

That's how I feel about the Inkosi. That little thing packs a punch.

For folders? Under 3". Around 1.5-2 is my ideal size. If I want a bigger blade than that, I want the strength of a fixed blade to go with it.

Naw we are about the same size. Maybe its all what ones used to routine. For example im a southpaw shooter but prefer govt 1911s for right handers, to ambi ones. Same goes for all ambi controls. I only use the right hand controls. Grew up shooting right hand guns and wierdly prefer them cause im used to them and have trained on them.

I dont find smaller blades any easier to use but geometry and blade thickness sure makes a big difference on edc tasks. Thinner blades sure are more useful to me anyways. I see your points though and get them. Its nice having lots of choices to fit everyones preferences.

I carry mostly ~3" at work (office) or around town bc that is enough blade for most of my uses at those times.
At home, doing chores, projects, or in the field I carry 4" because I have actually found a longer blade to be really handy. I only carry fixed blades when I know I'll need one or a small pocketable one (Izula or Bradford G3), so a 4" folder is a great option for compact and easy to carry but still decent sized blade. Usually a Military.

Mainly 3.5-4, but to steal a comment from a similar thread ergo's and quality are a big factor.
Cheers

I carry a 3" blade more than anything else but find that many times it is just a little short. However, I have found that most of the time anything over about 3 1/2" gives me a knife that is just to large large for pocket carry.

I recently carried a 2 1/2" Vic Cadet for a month and I just don't see how you guys can get by with anything shorter than that.

No option for my preference of 2.75-3.25, so I selected 2.99 inches or less.

Edit: My state blade length limit is 5.5", so it's not a legal issue for me, just ease of use and utility.

Although unscientific, it's interesting to compare the results of the poll, after 103 votes, to BladeHQ's folder inventory.

I'm so used to carrying folders with blade lengths of just under 3 inches, due to local restrictions (to take a phrase from "Shawshank Redemption" I've been "institutionalized"), that my favorite has become 2.99" exactly. I try to keep 70% of my purchases in the 2.75"-3.25" range.

Same with me, although I'm not sure whether my preference came prior to or as a result of the length restrictions (LA County). But 2.25" to 2.75" is my absolute favorite length range. Small knives are the best!
