Same with me, although I'm not sure whether my preference came prior to or as a result of the length restrictions (LA County). But 2.25" to 2.75" is my absolute favorite length range. Small knives are the best!

I feel like when I go with blade lengths of under 2.75 inches the handle becomes too short. However, they're still useful for light tasks. I have Spyderco ManBug on a keychain.

Prefer four inch or more. Having said that, I always have a smaller blade on me for those "sheeple" moments. My current edc is slightly over 4.5 inches, with another similar blade just a hair over 3.5 inches on my left side.

In checking BladeHQ's inventory of folders the most folders show up in the 3.5"-3.75" blade length range. Fully one-third (33%) of all folders! That's evident to me when I frequently check out the New Arrivals pages at BladeHQ, KnifeCenter, GP Knives, etc.

I like 3.5 to 4 inch blades, and that's usually what I carry. But I have a propensity to sometimes carry folders with 4.5 to 5 inch blades.

After 139 votes, here's a comparison of the results of the BF poll vis-a-vis BladeHQ's folder inventory. Unscientifically and based on the narrow BF audience, it seems like knife makers need to make more folders in the 3.00"-3.49" range!

^^^ Great poll. and interesting results, RamZar! I've been following, and I'm happy to see the 3.5-3.99 blades doing so well.

I guess more peeps are carrying the larger folders. Good on them!

3.5 is pretty much perfect for me. Less than 3 or over 4 will occasionally happen, but only if I'm carrying multiple blades.

3 1/2 - 3.99 for me. I'll also carry something small, but I find it is rarely used.
Something like this combo, or a Millie and a Chap works perfectly for me. I'm in central NJ......the sheeple MUST be taken into consideration here.....believe me!!

I now prefer 3.75-4.25" blades in folders. My tastes have grown a bit longer over the years.

4" light and thin is my preference. But that's not most of the offerings I see. So I have a good number of 3.5" knives.

I like larger folders most of the time. Give me between 3.5 and 4 inches. I'll take larger if I can get away with it.

I'm so used to carrying folders with blade lengths of just under 3 inches, due to local restrictions (to take a phrase from "Shawshank Redemption" I've been "institutionalized"), that my favorite has become 2.99" exactly.

Same here. Even though my country's laws on knife importation is not based on blade length (carrying without any lawful purpose or lawful need still remains a non-bailable felony regardless of length), i have imposed a non-compromising rule that any knife i buy will always have length less than three inches, period (bye bye Real Steel, Kizer, Reate, Stedemon!!). Although this is also heavily influenced by the fact that I also have small hands; anything above three inches feel unwieldy and bulky, and i like to have my picky be able to hook around the base of the knife's handle just nicely, without any excess material poking through the botton of my grip.

My favourite blade length lies along the 2.5 - 2.8" range. For 2.9 - 3", the blade better be no wider than 22mm or I'm not considering it.

2.75" is about the sweet spot for me, gives a 2.5" cutting edge which is plenty for my food or utility needs. Smaller than that will not slice an apple or stick of salami with a single cut. Smaller than 2" and I find it hard to cut packaging/cardboard/tape etc as you run out of edge during the cut and jam up in the ricasso/choil part of the blade. Larger than that is not comfortable to carry and it simply too much for my needs.

I'm actually curious what urbanites need a blade over 3" for in day to day usage. Can someone enlighten me?

Hey bro!
My knives are carried for work.....HVAC.....3 1/2" - 4" work perfectly for me. Lot of insulation & pipe insulation cutting for me. Making one clean cut makes the job look much better than hacking with a smaller blade.
