YOUR favorite folding knife company and why?

For me the two companies that hold my attention are Emerson and Spyderco. They make serious cutting tools. The owners are stand up people. Honorable mentions are Zt and cold steel.

I carry a CRK and Victorinox, nearly every day.

I like companies that do something very well, and don't try to grow beyond their competence. I don't know much about Victorinox, but for sure CRK embodies this. Substance over style in both cases.

Spyderco. Good steel. Flat grinds. Distal tapers. Generally very flat. Ergonomic. Models priced in just about any budget range. I try to stick to VG-10 and CPM-S30V.

If I went by the numbers, I have more GEC's than any other folding knife... but my edc is an Emerson Super 7. And I have no desire to change that--except if another Emerson comes along that I like better. It does everything I need it to do, feels great, looks cool, and sharpens up nasty.

Cold Steel for me, and Spyderco.
CS offers the strongest, grippiestl lightest-per-blade-length folders and is the undisputable champion in the Large and XL folding knives category.

Their Fixed Blades are very well designed and tough and cover all categories/roles,

their machetes can be used and abused, and they have many fun things and stuff other companies don't (push daggers, neck knives, kukris, axes...)

Unrivaled in variety and diversity of products, plus great QC and Customer Service in my experience.

Older models are just awesome, too. Way above their time.

and Spyderco, no one offers so many steels and upgraded/innovative materials

they have excellent value and bang-for-the-buck offering, like the Byrds, their Chinese line or the great classics

the grips and ergonomics in their folders and fixed blades are from another world (nice to the hand not the eyes), Spydie hole is revolutionary

they have offerings in all size ranges, from keychain to camp knife/chopper, they're the only great hawkbill makers too

and they are (almost) the only company to use H1 steel in their products, my favorite steel of all

Oh, and Customer Service and Sal himself are the icing on the cake, and an excellent reason to be a fan of the brand!

My knife needs are simple. A no frills, ergonomic ,plain Jane working knife is all I need. My daily carry knife is an Emerson.

That said, if pushed to decide, my favorite company is Spyderco. Sal Glesser is a class act ( Ernie Emerson is too) they offer solid. ergonomic, dependable knives (just like Emerson).

Unlike Emerson they also have a great variety. Want the latest, greatest steel? Yep they got it. Need a knife to do blue collar work? Yep they got it. Need a knife for The beach? Pocket jewlery for that black tie event? A collab with your favorite designer? A quality $40 knife? Or $100 budget? $200? Yep the have them too.

So I have to go with Spyderco.

Overall, my favorite folding knife company is Benchmade. Not because they are the best(far from it) but, because they offer the Axis lock. The Axis lock is one of my all time favorite designs.

In the showcase, Spyderco steps to center stage but I just can't find something from them that I am willing to spend money on. I do have high hopes for the PM3 coming out soon. If they made something with an oval hole in the blade, I would jump on that too. A little smaller profile for those of us in suits and ties.

I am very fond of Kershaw also.

Spyderco first, Cold Steel second. Might like ZT, but I have no interest in flippers with no functional thumb studs or holes for optional opening.

Welcome CC!!
Can't name just one...so I'll name a few in no particular order.

Pro Tech
Benchmade
Spyderco
ZT

They all make beautiful and useful knives, but the attribute that I appreciate above all is excellent Customer Service! All I have listed have great CS and will stand behind everything they make.

Great Eastern Cutlery for the diversity of offerings and the fit and finish

I agree 100% mind you I haven't had a lot of experience with many of the other Companies ether lol. First I bought a small Kershaw folder then started looking at all the other brands mentioned all through this thread and decided I wanted to buy a higher level knife.
My first was a SR-2 by Lion Steel out of Italy it was beautiful and compared to the Kershaw it was a much nicer knife. It should have been it cost 9 times as much lol. However I realized I like small knives and that brought me to Traditional knives ( slip Joints) from there I found Great Eastern Cutlery and Ive been hooked ever since lol. Good luck on your surch for new Knife Brands to buy and welcome to BF.:D
