My favorite neck knife is my Todd Begg Tree Frog.

I like the "bravo necker" but wow - steep on the price tag ay?

True, you can get just the basic knife for around $60-$70, but if you do like I did and get the handle scales, fire steel, paracord, and a belt clip, the total came to around $140.

But you do get what you pay for, and it's still cheaper that a Chris Reeve's Pro Soldier!

Yeah, that Izula with the handle sure doesn't look Tan to me. How could the coating get stripped off without losing the logo though?

It is in fact the Desert Tan. I really like this color. I would like to get a Kimber in Desert Tan to Match.

Neck carry is my preferred method for a fixed blade. My favorite neck knife (and indeed, my favorite knife hands down) is my first Murray Carter necker. Here it is on the Continental Divide Trail:

I just haven't fully bonded with my second Carter necker. In all objective respects, it should be an "improvement" on my first, but it is just a little heavier and less comfortable to carry. I brought it on an Alaska bike tour this summer:

Honorable mention must go to my maple BRKT Mini Northstar. It's generally similar to my Carters, but stainless. Still seems like it has less absolute cutting power for similar dimensions and mass. Sorry no pics, it's in a few pieces today as I replace the hollow pins with mosaic.

I like the MNS so much I recently picked up another in maroon micarta/mosaic:

I also really like my Krein Ultimate Caper. I wanted one in 3V but the D2 is fine, the green fibermascus is beautiful and the grind is, of course, excellent. IMHO Krein kydex is excellent too. This is my lightest necker and the easiest to carry.

I've been tempted to get an Izula or Bravo Necker but I just don't like coated blades or skeleton handles. Although I know it is popular, I really dislike cord-wrapped neck knives. IME the paracord just absorbs sweat, oil, food, rain, etc.

jlamb, this thread has a ton of excellent suggestions. As you look for a "neck knife", I might suggest expanding your search beyond knives that are explicitly named such. Find any lightweight knife that appeals to you and have a neck sheath made.

Very nice neckers. Thanks for sharing those.

That Krein is awesome love the handles. I just got my first, a TK-4. It seems like most of his stuff is small enough to be a neck knife, but that Caper looks like a prime choice! I need one!

The first Carter you have there is a Muteki model. It's not hand-forged. It's blanked by a laser then ground by hand. The one that says 'Carter' is a true custom hand-forged model. It's better. Start using it!

I've had five of them so far, only one left now after selling and trading. They were one Straight Wharncliffe, two Originals, and one Tactical Clip Point. My current one is a Wharncliffe Brute like yours but thin and light.

Guess what was waiting in my mailbox when I got home today! Thought I'd share a few pics of my new Bark River Bravo Necker...

Here's what came today, I'm still waiting for my lanyard and belt clip, but I did get the optional scales and firesteels. -the dollar is for size referance.

Here it is with the handle scales on. I went with green on green to compliment my Rodent Waki.
various2008-2009151.jpg

Here it is in my hand, can't believe just how light this thing is! I can get all four fingers around the handle at once though.
various2008-2009153.jpg

I love the blade geometry, full convex is AWESOME! -on a side note, just the blade by itself tends to rattle around quite a bit in the sheath. Good news is this is fixed by putting on the handle, or by inserting a firesteel rod, or both. Bad news is that the firesteel scratches the blade a bit, but then I bought this to use, not to look pretty!

I have liked the look of those for some time now....

Would you like to tell us more?

And, where do the folks that have these, hang out?

Marion

I got one of those the other day as well. Hell of a knife, very solid grip. Mine is the older (me thinks) 440C version. It gets super sharp, love it!! I believe bladeart.com sometimes carries them, I got mine used.

You can buy the Perrin custom made neck Bowie - right here

I ordered mine today it won't be in until after Christmas - he just sold the last one 10 minutes before I called! Anyway his number is right there on the site and he is Perrin's USA contact. I'm trying to get a handle made but no replies in the Tinkering & Embellishment section.

Perrin will make any grip you want but the price goes up naturally and there are no images to get an idea of what it would look like...hmmm?
