Your Favorite (non-SAK) Outdoor Folder

Opinel #7. Great little knife. Really hard to screw up, easy to sharpen, etc, etc, etc...:D

New here, just registered last night but would like to join in here. My favorite field knife is my Rukus 610. T he edge is fine enough for whittling and fuzz sticks, but the knife is strong enough for some prying. It goes with me everytime I enter the woods. However my new 741 onslaught is getting ready to give it a run for its pocket time.

I laughed at it when I first saw it. Now that I have it, it is the most used folder I own.
Full flat grind with a great lock and a pointy edge.

I prefer a good stockman, my favorite is the Cold Steel in Carbon V. I also carry a lockback, either a Buck 110, Spyderco Calypso Jr. or 3, or a Cold Steel Trailguide. I always carry both a "traditional" AND a lockback on me at all times.

None of them are as useful as a SAK though...

I have a thing about paying alot of money for folders, I think compared to a fixed blade their role is basically to be a slicer, cutting line, zip ties, tape, paper, that's about it. Cleaning game will gunk up the action, working parts can fail. I'd rather save the bones for a good fixed blade whose job is to do just about everything from chopping wood to whittling to cleaning game to cooking dinner, etc. My favorite outdoors folders are:
RAT 1
Kabar Warthog II
CRKT Lightfoot
Buck 110
1st gen Al Mar
as you can see Aus8 is a reoccurring steel, just because it's common in 20-30 dollar folding knives, and it is a good balance of blade strength/edge retention, plus it's very easy to get extremely sharp-for a slicer, that's a good thing. Plus if I lose the knife I'm not going to cry. Just because your high end folders are made from better steel doesn't make them more functional, I can run some wet and dry down an AUS8 blade and in about 30 seconds it's hairsplitting again.
