Your Favorite OBSCURE Spyder?

@Sigsog226

Man than knife is a sweet looking little blade. It appears to be an ancestor of the Stretch, Para3 and some of the other smaller blades like the urban

I like the Jester and the Battlestation!

Those are very interesting picks for "Obscure Spyders" And it seems as though over the years that Brother "Dialex's" designs like the Battlestation, Adventura and Junior models truly have a cult following that few other sectors of Spyders have.

As far as the Jester goes I always liked it much better than the Ladybug or Manbug either for that matter. I don't use little knives much because most of my work requires blades with some size to them. You'll hardly ever see me using anything smaller than a Rookie or Caly Jr. and I don't use blades that small very often.

But very interesting picks for sure.

I'm kind of surprised that we haven't yet heard mention of really obscure models like the SPUR, CoPilot, SPOT and Vagabod models. You don't even hear the collector community say much about them either. I don't think it's going to be much longer that the Jason Breeden Spyderco models like the C-111 Captain and the Breeden RESCUE will fall into the ranks of the "OBSCURE".

Also you could make a point to say that the first run GOLDEN, CO USA Earth made "RENEGADE & BLACKHAWK models are qualified for obscurity because it's getting almost impossible to find either one of those models made in GOLDEN, CO

I distinctly remember and I think it was back in the "IRONSTONE" days when they were selling those Laguiole models. Along with those SOLO, G-Sakai, and MOKI. Some of those non-Spyderco Spyders were very interesting needless to say.

I have a couple of other obscure models but I think that Solo is my most obscure. Of course, some die hards will tell you that's not a Spyderco. :) I will tell you that whatever it is, it is a very obscure and very flawed knife. :)

Well those are two very interesting "obscure Spyders". I used to own both the RENEGADE & BLACKHAWK models and both were made in GOLDEN, CO USA Earth. They also made the very first runs of the Meerkat models in GOLDEN as well with 440C blade steel whereas the Japan made Meerkats were made with AUS-6 if my memory serves me well. There were just a small handful of other Spyders that were made at both the USA and Japan facilities.

I truly believe that the Blackhawk and Renegade models would make excellent Sprint Runs if done in a newer/better blade steel and a better grade of G-10 for the handles. I believe that those two models were also the first with the Spyderco name to have been made with G-10 handles.

There were a lot of those Solo and G-Sakai models that I dearly loved. I remember those back to the old "IRONSTONE" days.

I would buy one, for sure. If you have the ready cash, it's fun to compare the changes. I have three (of 4) generations of Police and Chinooks, as well as several PM2 sprints and many Manix2 sprints.

T-Mag was nice and obscure but didn't click for me. I love the Tusk, it's a useful little knife.

I would LOVE to see this design come back with some minor updating and reversible pocket clip. Really good looking blade shape and overall design.

In regards to the RENEGADE & Blackhawk models I've yet to talk to hardly anyone that nothing but good things to say about both of those older, more obscure Spyderco models. One RENEGADE model I had was a GOLDEN made full Spyderedged model that I truly wish I still had it. Because it was one of the very first fully serrated Spyderco models I had that I actually used a lot. My very first was a Mariner SE model.

But the RENEGADE model is such a superb design that I would rank it as being timeless in many ways. With newer G-10 scales and a newer/better blade steel the RENEGADE has the potential of competing with just about any Spyderco model to date. It reminds me a lot of the JD Smith and Viele models. And it was a beast in SE I'm here to tell you all. Yeah the RENEGADE is a major candidate for a serious Sprint Run if nothing else.

And of the "obscure Spyders"??? The RENEGADE ranks among the top IMO.
