Your Favorite Pistol and Rifle?

I have 3 questions. First, whats your favorite pistol and why. Then, your favorite rifle and why. Then, if you had to compare your rifle and pistol to a knife, in other words, for example, a Chris Reeve Sebenza is the Sig Sauer P226 of knives, and so on, what would it be.

My favorite pistol is the Sig Sauer 226 9mm. I love its precision, smooth function, and its looks. Its also extremely accurate and easy to shoot. In my mind, it is the Sebenza of pistols because the Sebenza is also rugged, smooth, and nice to look at as well. The Glock 17 is a very close second, though its not smooth and refined like the Sig.

My favorite rifle is a Galil or Valmet, the finest of the AK types, i like their ruggedness and ultra reliable gas system, and honestly, i cannot right now think of their knife counterparts. They may also be the Sebenza of rifles, because i think of both as being built like a tank and ultra reliable. So, how about you guys?

Ooh, that's a toughie. Keeping in mind "favorites" are subject to whimsy--especially when you're username is guncollector!

Favorite pistol: Glock 23. Because I can/will make first round hits under duress with it--so its my "go to" for self-defense. It's .40 S&W chambering has got enough oomph, its accurate, its construction is durable and for all intents-and-purposes is corrosion proof. Knifeworld Counterpart: Busse Steel Heart-E?

Favorite rifle: DSA SA58 (FN FAL). The free-world's right arm. No poodle-shooters for me, make mine 7.62x55mm NATO. It's no target rifle, but its accurate enough. The FAL is robust and rivals the AK for functioning in harsh environments. Drawback is it is HEAVY. Knifeworld Counterpart: Hayes Katana-tac?

Can I answer again tomorrow? :)

Sure, but after tomorrow, i'll have to start charging you a small fee per post. :)

Oh, and by the way, the G23 is my 2nd favorite Glock, it shoots well, and when loaded with 14 165gr Golden Sabers, makes an awfully powerful semi-compact weapon. I give the nod however to my Glock 17, because 1) I can shoot it amazingly well, and extremely fast. And 2) With my factory mag and +2 floorplate, i get 20 rounds of 124 gr +p Golden Sabers in that bad boy. I like the idea that i dont really need to worry about changing mags during a fight.

Then you wrote: "Favorite rifle: DSA SA58 (FN FAL). The free-world's right arm. No poodle-shooters for me, make mine 7.62x55mm NATO. It's no target rifle, but its accurate enough. The FAL is robust and rivals the AK for functioning in harsh environments. Drawback is it is HEAVY."

Though i have never owned one, i have heard good things about the decent quality FALs, but IMO, the M1A is a good choice if you like heavy calibers, and with the black fiberglass stock, its not prohibitively heavy. And, the match version is EXTREMELY accurate. Gotta love 20 rounds of .308 with 1MOA accuracy! :)

I too am a fan of the SIG's, and would settle for either the P-226 9mm, or P-220 .45ACP as first choices.

And, the Valmet/Gallil in .308 do it for me as well. (I once blew up a Valmet M76 .223 when the extractor broke off under rapid fire, but that's a story for another day...)

Knife choice? The Bill Harsey/Al Mar 'Shiva' of course...I love it, even if I did spend $600 for it. Second choice? My modified CS Recon Scout...Swedged with a sharpened upper...never did like black paint anyway...lol

For primary defense? Glock 21 w/ Hydra Shoks & Trijicons.

For generally worse conditions, Ruger Mini 14 stainless Ranch model w/ composite stock and GP100 4" .357 in stainless loaded for bear (or a variety of other things, that's part of the beauty of a .357).

Most Giggles? Basic Browning Buckmark 4.5" barrel .22. That and my Ruger 10/22 have helped me to convert a few anti gunners as they're both non- threatning, accurate, fun and, well...NEAT.

PS: For the Fantasy collection I'd start with a Springfield M1 Match, a Galil, AK47 (pref Russian), an M60 and an M4 with an M203 hangin out down low. I'd also have a Walther P-38, a Luger, a Seacamp .32 (unbelievable trigger!!!) and an old Colt Python .357 6" barrel (with the good old Colt blueing). I'd probably also want a Benelli M1 auto shot and a Beretta presentation grade over and under to cover the scattergun part of the collection. I guess to complete it all I'd want something like a Weatherby 300 Win Mag with engraving and beautiful wood and some serious glass on top. I'd also want a totally tricked out Remington 700 BDL with all the composite/high tech widgetry on it. Did I mention that I'd need a lever gun?

...you don't have an email address listed.

That is, only if you want to go 'rockin' in the desert down here...

(Years ago, when I was 18, in the USAF down in Florida, I mentioned that I wanted to go 'Fishin'...and this civilian 'whack-phuck' in my shop said, "Whale dayum bowie, aye'll tayke kew fishin'"

All the guys in the shop said "Don't go, he's a whack-phuck, he'll feed you to the 'gators...")

Well, I went, and again, and again...that ol' redneck was a fishin' fool and after a few beers, we got along jus' fine...lol

So, I won't feed you to the 'gators, but I will rock your world if you're down this way...but you gotta buy the beers... ;)

We have very similar tastes - I own a Galil ARM 7.62 Semi-auto, a Glock 17 and a Sinn EZM3.
I own a few Spyderco knives including the Starmate, Rescue, Delica, Endura and Mouse. I've never seen a Sebenza but I know that everyone rates them very highly.

My two favorites are both .22s. My favorite rifle is my Remington 541 T heavy barrel bolt action with the Burris 4x12 compact scope. I know you can spend more on a good .22 rifle, but I see no reason to do so. With this rifle, I can put 10 rounds under a quarter at 50 yards. How much better accuracy does a person need?

My favorite pistol is my Ruger MKII auto with 5.5" bull target barrel. I am not a super shot with a pistol; but with this one, I can make a soda can dance at 25 yards.

Pistol: Glock model 20 (a 10mm)
Rifle: Winchester model 70 in .458 Mag.

The Glock is like my Spyderco Chinook, in that it's solid, and will do whatever I need it to do without failure.
The Winchester is like my Bill Siegle 11 inch-blade Bowie, in that it has ALOT of "power", and is made with "old-world" class.

You guys and your semis...

Pistol - Ruger Blackhawk in 45 LC.
Rifle - Marlin 1895 in 45-70.

Can you tell I'm an old fart?

Well, I already own four of my favorites:

Stainless Ruger MkII
Stainless Ruger 10/22
Stainless Colt Gov't Model
Winchester 94

A rimfire pistol and rifle, and a centerfire pistol and rifle.

As for favorites on my "Covet List":

Handguns
HK P7M8
Ruger Super Blackhawk
.357 revolver

Rifles
AR or AR clone
something in a .308, hmmm, too many choices...

Hey Swede, nothing wrong with your choices at all. In fact, one of the pistols I am drooling over right now is a Ruger Bisley in 45 Long Colt. If there was ever a do-all kind of pistol, that is it. If you wanna plink inexpensively, you get yourself some cowboy loads. If you wanna blast something or go hunting, you can handload the 45 Long Colt to hotter than a 44 Mag safely with the Bisley.

Thats a tough decision between my Colt Commander and my Glock 21. For EDC, and shooting at the range I will say my Colt Commander.

My favorite rifle for now is my Smith & Wesson custom 7mm MAG, stainless fluted barrel, Timney adjustable trigger, Bell & Carlson synthetic stock, and topped with a Leupold. My second is the Bushmaster M4, but its a Post Ban, and I would rather have a Pre.

Knife would be a Dozier KM-1 Ranger (that I don't own), and my Tim Wegner.

pistol

my Colt 1911 made from '60's govt. parts. nickel plated w/ stag grips. just haven't shot anything i'd rather carry.

rifle

.54 'transitional' flintlock by Mike Keller out of Seattle. Getz barrel, Twigg lock.

BUT

i got to shoot my coworkers H&K sniper rifle (SNG or something). fool spent $10K on it, but the wife said one Harley was enough for anyone :). sure is fun cloverleafing shots at 300 yrds. though...

knives right now

laguiole or puukko

Pistol: H&K P7 M8

Rifle: I'm really not much of a rifle person. My favorite long-range arm is my scoped Taurus Raging Bull in .44 Magnum. It's good out to around 250 meters. :D

Of course, I tend to compare my favorite firearms with my favorite knives.

I would compare the P7 to my custom Darrel Ralph Mini-Maxx (Talonite spear-point recurve with a titanium frame). They are both sophisticated designs that achieve simplicity of operation. Both concepts are off the beaten path, but they provide excellent versatility, reliability, and toughness.

I would compare the Raging Bull to the Camillus CUDA Maxx. Both are big, intimidating weapons that are stronger than they probably need to be. At the same time, both are relatively compact, especially considering the power they provide.
