What is your one favorite pocketknife and why? What qualities about it make it your favorite?

Try to keep it down to one specific pocketknife but if it is a family of pocketknives that's ok.

Don't forget to post a picture!!

Gee brother, have mercy! That's like picking your favorite kid! It will require a ponder....

I wouldn't call it my favorite per say, but over the last 6 years it has been carried and used more than any of knives. A Northfield 53 Cattle Rancher.

I'm a proud Texan, so the yellow rose stallion is hard to beat. It's also a factory second, which I love. I figure they sell fewer seconds than they do regulars, so it's even more rare. It's also basically perfect. Better in most respects than non-second GECs I own.

Stan, that's a beauty right there! I sure wish GEC would run the Cattle Rancher/Baron again.

That blade combo would also be sweet on a 98 frame. :)

Great looking knife there, Stan!

I'm going by memory alone here but is that the #53 that Mike Latham from CKnet supplied the bone for? I seem to remember something like that.

Kiteman 72,
I have been calling and asking GEC if they were going to another run for 5 years now, and the answer has always been no. As for the 98, I really like the Texas Cattle knife with the awl instead of spey blade. I actually use the awl a lot.

I'm not sure if he supplied the bone, but I did purchase it from him. It's a great knife and you don't see that style handle very often.

Stan, for a few months last year I carried my 98 cattle knife quite a bit, and was really surprised at how much I used the awl. I almost lost it out of one of the large GEC belt sheaths, so I kinda got nervous and stopped carrying it regularly.

Bummer about the 53, but maybe we'll get a Cattle Baron version of the 98!

That jigging on your 53 is totally killer, btw!

My Yellow Huntsman! It has all the tools I need and has traveled with me extensively. The color makes it hard to lose as well. My most used knife by far.

For me I always seem to come back to my Case SBJ. I ended up selling two amazing Case Bose Norfolks simply because when I compared the F&F, blade to handle ratio, and ease of digging the small blade out I ended up favoring the Case SBJ. It's just a better knife. Now.... don't get me wrong. I do wish that I had kept the two Norfolks but the SBJ is just an amazing knife for the price. I have my user/abuser, a back-up of the same knife, and also a Damascus version but to be honest the one I use will probably outlast me!

OK - Here are a few that I have.....

Most sentimental knife - My Grandfathers Camillus (bottom photo left)

Very special knives - T.A. DAVISON'S 1st & 2nd knife that he made. ( #1 is the stag and #2 the one with Kuda Horn, both have file work on spine.)
Why do these mean much to me? Because I've handled and photographed almost every knife he has made.
(That's almost 1,500 hand made knives now......:))
I do not carry #1 the Stag is cracked, but I do carry #2 sometimes, it's made out of D2 steel. And you can see in the photo it was a little thick.

Most favorite knife - T.A. DAVISON Harley Striper - WHY? Because I ordered it that way, size color, everything. And it's one of a kind, there is NOT another like
it in the whole wide world. :D

My favorite knife to carry is my T.A. DAVISON Black Paper Micarta w/ bead blasted blade. WHY? - because I ordered it to be built like a tank.
And have a rock solid lock up, it snaps like a snapping turtle.....:D:thumbup:

My all time favorite and most carried are the Case Medium Stockman (6318 & 63087). They are just the right size, sit well in the pocket and are nice looking.

Beautiful Cut Co, Paul, I'm slobberin' all over the keyboard. :D

I have to go with my bark ram's horn Cuban stockman.

This Opinel No.6. It has been the one constant in my pocket for the last several months. I usually have an SAK and some flavor of slipjoint as well

This photo is nearly a year old. The handle is a bit darker now after some more hi jinks with a butane torch. This is my first 6; I used to get mostly 7s and 8s. Slimmed down it takes up about as much room as a medium stockman.

I've just gotten into Opinels in the past couple weeks. Started with a 8 and a 7 Carbone. The 8's too big for me to want to carry but I'll use at home, the 7 I'll probably end up giving away to someone. I got an 8 Garden knife (INOX) and liked it so much I bought 3 more. Then gave the first one to a friend that's not really a knife guy but still has bug-out-bags/survival kits. The taper of the handle makes it very comfortable to carry despite its length (not all that long, just longer than I want to put in my pocket). The stainless blade will serve me well during the humid monsoon months. I just got a couple of 6's in Carbone. Because I mainly got in to Opinels for a semi-disposable utility knife (primarily box cutting), I think the 6 is the one for me. The thin, tapered blade just glides through cardboard, and the price is right. I looked all around and around for a high-quality utility knife (be it folding or retractable, or whatever), and they all suck. The Opinel is where it's at. I got a few higonokami's in various sizes, but the blades are thicker than I like and I don't want to put one in my pocket because there's no way to keep the blade closed. I've got a Mercator on the way.

As for my favorite traditional, I don't really have one. I've got a pile, so I just grab the one that suits my whimsy that day. Other than that, my "favorite" is usually whatever I just bought because it's the shiny new toy.

Queen Copperhead with custom thinned out grind. It's the knife I always come back to in the end. Thin, slicey, really nice gentle pull, looks incredible, cuts like a laser.
