Your Favorite Two for the Woods (Pics)

oh yeah mr.trooper, cz75 p-01 is my favorite 9mm at any price. your compact looks sweet with those wraparounds.

Thanks! Its the discontinued Semi-Compact model; it has the short barrel/slide of the compact on a full sized frame, so it takes the same 16 round mags as the full sized pistol, but in an overall smaller package. CZs are my favorite 9mms as well.

Another CZ fan here as well. I see the CZ75 as the equivalant of the Scrapyard Dogfater and the Busse FBM as the equivalant of a tarted up 1911.

This next summer it will be the Scrapper combo in the woods my reprofiled SS4
and when it gets here my new DF.
My last year budget pair is the CS Kukuri machette and the Mora clipper.

hey hatchetjack, is that CS 'hawk od green? it looks like it from my screen. i really like that. never thought of gettin a hawk sprayed in od. thats really sweet. is it a paint, or a professional gun type coating? also, did you pin your head onto your shaft? I had a firefighter buddy of mine, tell me, while i was drilling mine, not to pin it. i asked why is that? he replied, that if you like to throw em, and you miss, the head is supposed to loosen a little, to absorb some of the impact. if you pin it, itll crack the handle MUCH sooner, when you miss your throw. i said, 'how do you know this?' he says, 'im a firefighter, i mess with an axe every now and then'...i was like ohhh yea, i guess you do lol. other than that, hes a VERY intelligent, experienced guy, and was a soldier with 20 years in service as well. Ive no reason to doubt him but, have you heard anything like this before? is this correct?

Here's my current two. The Pathfinder has seen a fair bit of action in Scotland, the Barkie is a more recent purchase, but I love it!

The pictures not too good, so you can't see the two pouches on front of the cordura Pathfinder sheath that hold the selection of goodies. Items:

Al Mar Pathfinder
Bark River Fox River
Ceramic sharpener
Big artificial flint rod
Flint striker (broken fiskar's cutter)
Bic
Fenix P1d Cree Edition
Watertight aluminium tube with PJ cotton wool for tinder

Cheers,
Rick.

The two knives:
* Ritter steel Dusak Knife (7" 1095)
* Benchmade Activator (2" S30v)

Add a CZ-75 and a lighter and you have my minimalist woods walking kit.

The Dusak is used for chopping, battoning, and skinning. The Activator is used for detail work. Since the Dusak sees the most use, 1095s ease of sharpening is a big asset. The Activator isnt used much, so its high edge retention and corrosion resistance are most important; you dont want to spend time maintaining a knife you seldom use. Each knife is well suited to its purpose.

Normaly i would add a SPyderco Spydersaw to this, but thats not part of the "2 knives" game ;)

Nice set up Trooper I like the design on that knife, The Dusak looks the part.

Yes, it is green. No special coating. I used Krylon OD camo paint. No, don't pin the heads. It will just shear off or break the handle from a bad throw. I also throw 'hawks and the slippage saves a broken handle.

Hey Bill, two more days. Looking forward to hearing about the hunt.

I carry one of my newly acquired CGFBM's thinned out at the edge. (Much Better)

THAT SIR IS ONE BAD A$$ KNIFE--GREAT CHOICE

Thanks, I like the looks of that bark river knife posted by foxyrick. I don't have much use for a knife that size though, as I prefer a large chopper and a strong folder (sebenza.) I still may have to get one though;)

I see it-cool knife.Look on the Right and tell me what a Shell Water detector is??

I see he stores Cotton Balls in it now--But what was it first??

Agreed, even if you don't throw it. I used a little sandpaper and elbow grease to get a good fit between my hawk's head and handle, and wrapped under it with rawhide. (strips cut from a soaked doggie chew bone... kinda gross to work with but it works). The rawhide will dry tight and be more or less weatherproof if you coat some poly on it after it dries. The advantage is, it's nearly as secure as a pinned head would be, but repairs are much easier if the handle splits. (Rawhide will cut right off with a sharp knife)

I've also used my hawk without securing the head at all, inertia tends to keep it where it belongs in use, and they sure pack away nicely that way.

The shell water detectors were little plastic filter-type things, about ten came in the tube, I think. They were used, again if I recall correctly, to check for water content in aviation fuel.

I found a box of ten of these tubes at a junk sale years (and then some) ago. Couldn't resist them. Unfortunately I've lost modt of them over the years. They made exellent little storage pots.

Rick.
