My dad has been building longer than Randall and while not a household name he is in my house a legend. The following picture is of the first bowie knife he made and gave to me -

He used spring steel - black walnut - and brass- completely old school this knife was built in 1984 - I cracked the handle in 1994 throwing it - Dad and I used to throw to each other to practice. (Yeah, its the Scot/Norse in us) used long set epoxy mix to fill and coat and it remains one of my prize possessions worth more than any other firearm or knife I have. :)

I bought this when I was around 11 or 12 years old at a flea market in Florida (around '72 or '73). It's been a very sturdy knife and holds a good edge. (The bottom one in the first pic)

The first fixed blade I ever bought was a Schrade USA Sharpfinger, model 152. When my dad passed, I got his old Imperial Prov, which was the first fixed blade I ever used in the field. Still going strong, too!

I received this Western F66 Black Beauty as a Christmas gift from my parents in 1966; still have it and use it occasionally to skin and butcher a deer (the original sheath is long gone). This Imperial M-4 was my Dad's; he brought it back from Japan after serving there in the US Army in the mid-1950's; he gave it to me in 1990 when I was waiting to deploy to Desert Storm (never got there). The Imperial was very dull and painted black; I spent a several of hours on the stones getting the dings of the previous 45 years out of it and removing the paint. It is currently in my footlocker with other treasured things. OH

I unfortunitly do not still have mine. I was ten and fell asleep deer hunting. I must have laid it done and forgot all about it when I woke. It was a Case in stag handles from 1990. I had saved up for it and my dad took me to buy it the night before. I still kick myself for losing it. I didn't buy another one until last year from G.L. Drew, a member and knifemaker here on BF. I will not be losing this one.

I lost many of my folders, I cannot remember one breaking, but over the course of moves lost several- it is never fun!

I don't have my first (or second or third), but I have this one from 1979, and I have a F-S I've had even longer

my first fixed blade was a small case..my dad got it for me for xmas in 1983...don't know if u can see it or not...but that same day on xmas I engraved 12-25-83 on the sheath...

I ordered my first fixed blade from the famous, highly weird George Leonard Herter III catalog in 1963. It was a Canadian belt knife type, now long gone; I don't know where. I have many well-loved fixed blades, some much older than that. Here are 3 Remingtons from the late 1920s and early 1930s.

I never knew the Western of Old Hunter was called a Black Beauty but that was the first fixed blade I ever owned.Found it on a truss under my neighbors house helping him repair a busted water line when I was about 8 years old and the knife itself had seen some good use back then. Unfortunately I do not still have it.

I can't recall having a fixed blade as a really young person, folders only.
I was about 12 when I found this while hiking with my family in Wyoming somewhere. Yes, I still have it after 30+ years.

Absolutely awesome, history in a blade!

The memories alone are worth it. Whether it is still shiny, slightly used or a rusted heap- those memories!

My first fixed blade was not traditional. I have only had four of them and the only traditional of the lot is a mora that was my uncles.
