Your largest traditional folder

Remington Camp knife in the center. I think it's 4 3/4" closed.

My S&M File & Wire Mountain Man Trapper is my biggest and heaviest traditional. At 4 5/8" closed with 2 large/wide blades, it can't really be called a pocket knife:eek: I had G2 make me a nice sheath for her, as she really is a belt carry size...I think she weighs me down more than my fixed blade skinners on the hunt:D But she is mighty purty and them ATS-34 blades are as sharp as a blade can get. A real treat when the animal is down and the wet work begins:D:thumbup:

I think this is the one that Campbell was referring to.
It is part of a Tympanic-Snipe hunting kit, and is about 13" closed.
You tap the drumsticks together, in a paradiddle pattern, and when the T-Snipes come tap dancing out of their subterranean nests, you whack off their heads!!!
They are so happy when they meet their maker, it makes the meat taste great!!:D
Lee Grogan sent me the camouflage. It works so well the T-snipes often ask me to dance before they realize what's up!!:p

Egads, what a monster! I never done seen myself a knife like that. That's a lot of ebony. Snipe huntin', eh? I've yet to bag one of those little suckers myself. There's always next season, I suppose. Armed with this new knowledge, my confidence springs anew! :D

My largest traditional folder would either be a two-bladed GEC Pioneer, or a Case Large Stockman. My GEC Elephant Toenail is pretty big too. All of these are a bit large for my taste. Anything bigger, and you'd be better off with a fixed blade, IMHO. I like my traditional folders small- under 4" generally.

I was looking at some of Case's Clasp knives last weekend, they're enormous. They look like a cartoon! Especially in some of the obnoxious colors Case is making them in these days.

Here is mine next to a Buck 110. Not really good for anything but a saleman gave it to me and I never turn down a knife

I want to see a picture of you holding that knife. I just can't wrap my mind around it's size. :)

I've got two of these.

4" blade, 9-1/4" OAL when open.

Then I have a very large whittler and serpentine stockman (Bulldogs) in this photo. The second down is the whittler and the bottom one is the stockman. The top knife is a large Copperlock for scale. The 4" stockman is also for scale.

And this Remington R293 Guide Trapper is pretty fair sized knife as well.

I've seen some in images as well, impressive beasts. Who could not love a pocket knife the size of an entrenching tool, and in glorious periwinkle or salmon colour, of all things? :D

Beanie Babies of the knife world, indeed. :D I have a hard time envisioning the man who would actually carry and use one of those things. And what they would use it for. I'm sure he's out there, somewhere. It would seem that most of the truly obnoxious colors are sold out, so somebody must be buying them. This is the most garish example I could find:

My yella CV Case Trapper is my biggest. Great cutter - but most days when I carry it, I wish it were about a half inch shorter.

i dont think it too unusual, look at robot puke celluloid or mother of toilet seat, classic scale material used forever... as long as case is moving product and keeping the doors open i'm happy...
Now whats the dimensions on the clasp? things huge:eek:

That particular color's not too bad. I don't have any problem with brightly colored knives- these ones are just a bit gaudy for my taste- being so huge. Once could say that bright colors suit the pattern, because being subtle or inconspicuous is certainly not what it's about! :D

Case's clasp pattern is an odd bird. It's enormously long and wide- 5 1/2" closed, yet very thin. As in, single bladed, slimline trapper thin. The blade, liner, bolster and scale materials are all the same thickness as the rest of Case's line (or pretty durned close), yet the other dimensions have been ramped up monstrously. The overall impression is that someone took a folding hunter and ran it under a steamroller. :D

I could be off on this, but personally, I would be concerned about the thing bending in my pocket if I sat on it wrong.

thanks for the description, my 2bladed camillus hunter is shocking wide and beefy feeling compared to my case... a skinny monster!
carry that green for a few decades and i'd bet it look pretty cool:thumbup:
or take a buffing wheel to it for the instant look:D
cheers

I think this is the one that Campbell was referring to.
It is part of a Tympanic-Snipe hunting kit, and is about 13" closed.
You tap the drumsticks together, in a paradiddle pattern, and when the T-Snipes come tap dancing out of their subterranean nests, you whack off their heads!!!
They are so happy when they meet their maker, it makes the meat taste great!!:D
Lee Grogan sent me the camouflage. It works so well the T-snipes often ask me to dance before they realize what's up!!:p

Aw jeez, that makes me and my Opinel number 12 look downright wimpy!

Here is mine next to a Buck 110.

I'm not sure if I would call that one a traditional folder. But then again I'm so old I don't even call the Buck 110 a traditional folder since it came out after I was born:p

And I won't even be 50 untill late this year. I don't know what to think about all you young whipper snappers calling these semi modern lockback patterns traditional:D.... but it's darn sure making me feel old:(

Back on topic, the largest I have is full size Case Trappers.
(Unless my semi modern Buck 110 counts:p)

Charlie, cut the ends of the sticks off and it'd be real hard to execute the Flam Paradiddle :)
