It's always asked what your favorite knife is. Well what have you bought that you really hated. Mine is a Cold Steel Ultra lock folder. It won't hold an edge, the lock wore
out rather quickly and the blade hits one of the spacers when closed leaving a nice small dent in the edge.

Excellent post!
For me , it's a Gerber Gator-mate. It doesen't hold an edge worth ****, and won't cut worth a %^%^ when it is sharp. It lost it's edge completely field dressing one deer. Better steel and a better grind would make a world of difference. The belt pouch is the best part of the whole package.

Well I´d have to say my Buck Nighthawk. Almost impossible to put on a good edge on my 204 (I stopped after several hours of rebeveling) and it doesn´t hold its edge at all. The sheath looks kind of cheapish and the handle is supposed to be ergonomicaly molded. However it looks more like those handles you would see on kitchen knives.

Interesting topic and I have had similar results with those knives as well. My Buck Nighthawk had such a thick edge, that regrinding would have been the only option. Rebeveling would have taken too long. My Cold Steel Ultra lock seemed like a nice folder until I actually tried to cut some wood with it. Just from trying to do a heavy cut with it, the thing developed a nasty wobble in the blade/lock area. Traded both knives off at a loss just to get rid of them.

The only knife I ever owned that I did not like much was a Victorinox knockoff. It was cheap and poorly made, but to tell you the teuth I still used it a lot. So I guess I really didn't ever own a knife I hated, just one I didn't like much.

I once bought one of those "nightwatchmen" batons with the knife blade inside. I did one snap cut into cardboard and the blade broke off at the tang.I owned it about 45 seconds before it broke. I still hate BudK. BTW, when I got mine ( a year or two ago) it was advertised as 440c. I complained my as* off. Last I saw it is now listed as "stainless".

No Joke, the partially serrated BM710 my brother sent me. I like the axis lock and the feel of the knife. But the edge geomtry is terrible with uneven, super wide grinds (now corrected). And the steel is ridiculously hard. I hate partial serrations on knives. And the darn thing is just to big for my daily carry needs.

My Spyderco Wegner Jr PS. Just too many serrations on it for me. It it had 2-3 less serrations, it would be perfect but unfortunatley the serrations run too far up the blade for my taste. I also have the plain which I love.

My least favorite knife would be my Imperial Schrade M7 survival. The bayonet blade, and heavy handle are not practical for my use. It would be a favorite if it would attach to the end of my HBAR. (it was a close race between it and the Buckmaster)

Paracelsus: I had the exact same problem with my Benchmade 710. Feels very solid and smooth. But there was hardly an edge to it. It took me forever to sharpen it up properly. Now I like it, but for $100 I don't like having to sharpen any knife that is brand new. When I received it, I called Benchmade to ask what angle to use to sharpen it up, and I was told there was no exact degree angle. Maybe that is why there was no exact edge!

On the other hand my 2 Namravus Cubs arrived incredibly sharp.

I have to agree on the Gerber Gator Mate. It is a terrible knife. The blade is way too thick and wont take an edge. I've tried and tried to rebevel it out near the tip and it is still as dull as crap. The bead-blasted blade has rust spots all over. Yep, it's my least favorite.

Anyone want it? I'll mail it to you... (not hardly worth the stamps though...)

BM730SBT. Of all my knives, I've never been able to sharpen this one to my standards. Thick blade, unusual grind? I don't know. It's too expensive to be merely "pretty sharp"!

"Always just one knife short of perfection!"

While I find myself seldom posting in this forum anymore, here is a rare topic that, for me, is nearly impossible to resist answering.
The biggest POS folder I've ever had the misfortune of owning is the Boker Brend.
The liners on the lock are too thin, blade developed incurable vertical wobble after 50 cycles or so, the pocket clip has a retention pin for the scale located directly under the contact point of the clip which shreds pockets in short order. Also, the G-10 scales are so thin that the knife is easily pinched nearly to the point where both sides are touching. There is more, but I'm typing on the fly and cannot remember it all right now. IMO, this folder BLOWS.

FWIW, the only redeeming value I've found in this folder is the blade. A great shape, good thickness and seems to hold an edge fairly well. I was unable to thoroughly test the knife as I do not trust it enough to risk injury.

this is the classic "Rambo Knife" as it appeared in the first movie.

I've taken this thing back to the Lile shop annually for several years to have it sharpened, (many years not doing anything but a couple test cuts with it between sharpenings) and it's never taken an edge.
I don't mean that it won't pop hairs, or turn a rubber band into chiplets, or slice paper cleanly, I mean it wouldn't cut a fork sized piece off of a tender steak if your life depended on it.
This knife sucks. PERIOD.
Only problem is, it's EXPENSIVE and I can't sell it to someone while extolling it's virtues. (It has none.)
It will NOT take an edge no matter who tries it or what they try.

Unfortunately, I bought it used and carried it a couple times on field exercises in the Corps, so it's got enough wear on it that it has NO value as a collector piece. (Plus the fact that Mrs. Lile elected to keep the shop running after Jimmy died and there is no way to tell a knife made by Jimmy from one made years after his death.)

I hate this thing.

Hmmm...
Cold Steel Tanto (all models)

Anything that is labeled as "tanto" or "Japanese style" without actually living up to that standard.

My least favorite (and I don't own very many knives total from which to select a candidate) is a Buck hunter. It was given to me as an award, otherwise I would not even own it. It's just not very useful for the things I do. I work in an office and a knife needs to be concealable in the pocket or waist band. The hunter is too heavy and too big for any of that.

I cut up large volumes of heavy cardboard boxes generated from home business. About 1.5 boxes is all this thing is good for because of the cheesy steel. It resists corrosion but does not resists dulling. So I wind up not using it at all. Jack

Anything from Cold Steel I've ever bought. For whatever reason, I'll just get the urge to pick up one of their folders thinking I'll "give them another cahnce", and I'm always disappointed. The hate the toy-like feel of those goofy plastic handles. They are always sharp as hell out of the box, but the edge is so friggin'thin that it just about falls off after the first use. The molded in pocket clips on the older models were just silly. I've must have given four Voyagers away to friends in the last year or so- I guess I haven't learned my lesson.

Hey misque- glad to hear I'm not the only one who thinks the Boker/Brend is a POS. I had one with the wood slabs, and the lock up was horrible. The locking leak was wafer thin and barely engaged the blade. Not to mention the blade play- must have been .125" side to side!

Ok, maybe it was less than that...

Oh, and just about anything out of Smokey Mountain Junk Works. (although you can score some deals on factory stuff i.e. Spydies, CRKT...)
