Your life vs. laws...

I cannot answer or even provide an opinion on the legal carry of sticks or some type of knuckles. What I do is carry, legal or not. In 20 some odd years of carrying weapons I have never been searched by an LE unless I was completely ****ing up. Bars and alcohol seem to bring back hazy memories. In all the cases the LE`s were justified in the search, but these were many years ago and times have changed alot. Fortunatly for me I had the sense not combine booze and weapons.
Understand, I don`t suggest to illegal carry of weapons (Firearms, Blades, Sticks ect.) but I do so myself. One must keep in mind that CW carry whether with permit or no, an individual has certain social responsablities. Just because you have the latest multi barrel gatling glock with 300 rounds locked and ready to rock does not mean traveling to locals YOU damn well know you should not be. Nor does it make you BAD. The same applies to blades. What it does, or should do is make a person extremaly cognizant that a simple exchange of cross words an otherwise minor street altercation could turn in to a killing.
An armed person has the choice to use deadly force or not. This is a choice that must be made wisely and sometime quickly. After the fact YOU will need to show that all possiable avenues of escape and opportunities to de-escalate the situation were thwarted or blocked by the number of assailants or the escalation of force shown by a single assailant to the point that deadly force is justified. A slap to the face does not justify response by driving 8" of cold steel in to the offender or double tapping him, unless you can demonstrate fear of your (or your family) life due size, strenght ect. of the attacker or attackers. And god help the poor bastard that has been drinking, druging or otherwise indulging in MAD`s prior to the altercation taking place.
I bring this up because most in this forum are concerned with self defense and self defense does not begin or end with the proficency of lethal force.
All this said I have put up with remarks to me or my wife that if a 1911 had not been tucked under a jacket I would have responded with fist or boot. From my own experiance I can tell of the great restraint and tolerance that is required carrying CW`s.
It better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6. Just make sure that the 12 judging you are convinced you were not looking for trouble.

45: You bring up an EXCELLENT point. It does take more responsibility, maturity, and restraint to carry a weapon than people think. Beautifully stated.

The laws here in New Mexico are really off the wall. You can legally carry any type or make of handgun as long as it is NOT cocealed. They tried to pass a cc law,but failed. You can leaglly keep and carry loaded gun in your car and use it if threatened; your car is considered an extension of your home. You cannot carry any type of automatic knife.Go figure>

Hmmmmph, Bubbala, i thought Florida was the only state with this absurd system of laws. With my concealed weapons permit, i can walk around with my Glock 17, filled with 19+1 rounds of 9mm +p ammo stuffed in my waistband,(and another 40 or 50 rounds in spare mags) but i am a criminal if i have a little MT UDT in my pocket. Yeah, THAT makes sense. And, dont get me started on the issue of laws ostensibly designed to prevent criminals from being armed, do NOT affect criminals at all, but instead affect only the most law ABIDING among us since, as we know, but apparently legislators dont, that criminals BY DEFINITION do not follow the law, and law abiding citizens, also by definition, do. Im not complaining too much though, after reading this thread, i realize how lucky i am here in Florida that i can legally carry a firearm on my person. Move down here everybody, we'll do lunch, armed of course. :)

As much as I dislike Arizona there are some side benefits. The only knives that are illegal to carry are those that the carrier uses in commiting a crime. And although you can be stopped and asked questions it is perfectly legal to walk down the middle of the street with a gun strapped to your side. Getting a CC permit is just a matter of taking a weekend class and paying the state $100. As a matter of fact in order for Az to become a state they had to include in their constitution a statement that they could not infringe on an individuals right to bear arms (not a direct quote, but the basic idea). So if you can stand 110 degree temps all summer (and spring and fall) don't particularly like the color green and prefer cactus to tree's, Arizona isn't a completely lousey place to attempt to live in.

Hey now, come on...those MT OTF's are wicked! But a Beretta? Harmless...

Actually Dr. Jones, Berettas ARE essentially harmless, only on those rare occasions when they actually fire can they be dangerous. :D (And even then, generally only to the user, given the 92's propensity to eject the entire slide into the shooter's forehead during recoil. :) :D ;) )

 Shame on you, Megalobyte!!! You should know better! The 92 was chosen as the official sidearm for the US Armed forces, and has undergone LOTS of rigorous testing. It is also widely employed elsewhere in the world, and by countless LEO's around the US. It is a perfectly fine weapon.

There were only several isolated incidents of the slide fracturing. This was determined to be a result of using high-pressure rounds that were actually designed for the Uzi, and should NOT have been shot through a handgun.

Beretta took this issue seriously, and their answer was the 92FS, which is beefed up in exactly the area that cracked. Again, this was caused by improper ammo, and only happened a handful of times.

Bubala 1,
I agree with you about New Mexico. To make a long story short I was stopped by a NM State Trooper, at about 60 miles an hour over the posted 55mph(that BMW R 1100 RT does not like anything under 95). By the time the trooper had gotten turned around and pulled in behind me, my helmet was off, documents in hand. As he approached I explained that I had firearms with me. As I started rattling them off ( P220 in the tank bag, P230 in the saddle bag, 2 1911`s in the other saddle bag and an AR-15 broke down into lower and reciever strapped to the rear rack) he said no problem, thanks for telling me. We talked for 20 miniutes, ran my license through NCIC. And the best part, I got a warning for 10 mph over the limit:). Hell, he could have taken me straight to jail. Funny thing is, I had stopped for gas 20 miles before and ran into a young guy on a 600 cc bullet bike, no helmet, gloves, just shorts, sunglasses and tennis shoes. The Cop gave that kid a ticket for 30 mph over in the same damn place I got pulled over, and searched him. I attibute this to percepction and respect for the man doing his job.

I heard of, but never seen this failure myself(that in itself does not mean anything, but my own 92F has 8000 or so rounds through it without a stutter or glitch. No offense intended folks, but I`m not much of a tupperware user. By the way I am a hardcore 1911 fan. An old war horse it may be, but it still the yard stick by which all other combat handguns are jugded. I recommend the Wilson Tacical Elite for EDC.

A little off the track, sorry.

.45: Hahahahaha! Funny, my 328i doesn't seem to like anything under 90 or so, either! When he gave me my last ticket, the cop even said "your car is built for those speeds; it's stable." :D Think I'm gonna use that one against him in court!:D (Or go down trying, at least!)

You guys are great!!!

DJ. I am, of course, kidding about the Beretta 92. (mostly) :D As an aside, your defense of the 92 reminded me, i have shot numerous EXTREMELY hot loads through my HK USP.45 with only recoil to show for it. That includes full power 45 Super (185g at 1400 fps) and MagSafe's hottest 45 load, a 92g frangible at a ridiculous 2200 fps! I know, people say the MagSafe's dont penetrate enough, hell, anything remotely solid impacting at 2200 fps will do a LOT of damage, sh*t, if a BOOGER flew out of my nose at 2200 fps(which HAS happened), it would be deadly, let alone a 92g bullet filled with plated lead shot!:D That being said, because i am 99, but not 100% convinced of Magsafe's effectiveness, i would keep any 45 i was relying on for self-defense loaded with Remington Golden Sabre 185g +p. Cant beat it for a reliable, effective defensive ammo choice. OK, i know, no more gun talk. Sorry, i just had to do it, back to KNIVES. :D
