Hey everyone,

I'm thinking about buying a folder, not that I need one (i prefer fixed blade carry) but for pure enjoyment. In the past my favourite folder was the Spyderco PM2 (love the spydie flick). There is no real price limit but would prefer to keep it reasonable (under 300 ish).

Autos, balisongs, OTF's, Karambits etc all illegal for me. Must be a non assisted folder.

Please share your most enjoyable folder with me or feel free to make me a recommendation.

Thanks!

Custom knife factory Sokoi 2.0
Reate Horizon D Carbon fiber.
ZT 0804CF
ZT 0562CF
benchmade 940-1 (even with the poor fit and finish benchmade has)
Maserin AM-2 carbon fiber

These are some of my fav's. i have a lot more that i like, but i like these the most. im probably missing some tbo.

Gotta say Mo2 has good taste.

Brous Silent Soldier Flipper
ZT 804 CF
ZT0562CF

Thanks for the reccomendations dudes!

May I ask why you like the ZT 804? I much prefer the looks of the ZT 450. Is there a big difference between the two I should know about?

My list is kinda looking like this:

Spyderco PM2
Spyderco Mamba
ZT 0562
ZT 4502
Benchmade 940-1 (I like it but won't buy it. I refuse to buy Benchmade.)

Style is what you like...but..
the 804 is a big, heavy long-bladed knife that fits a large hand very nicely. The 804 has a top of the line thicker blade-steel and much higher price
the 450 is a small, light-duty much-shorter thinner blade, much lighter folder for smaller hands. The 450 has a good blade-steel and about 40% less price.
Check out Google and go to the knife-shops where they show the specs. Very simple to do this yourself.
They are BOTH good knives; just on opposite sides of the spectrum.

Cheers. I'm checking them out on bladehq now.

I'm a little bit nutty about this, but I probably get more fun from the entry level ($20) Kershaw flippers than just about any other knives. The Oso Sweet, Volt II, the Chill, Shuffle, etc. I prefer the flippers in this genre. There is just something fun (for me, anyway) about getting a lot of utility and flickability with an 8Cr13MoV blade that a lot of people sneer at. I also love the Ontario Rat 1 and 2 in the sub $30 range, and the ESEE Avispa at $30.51 shipped.

The Kershaw Burst with Speed Safe assisted opener is an awesome blade at $21.52 shipped. Like a chick with no self-esteem, the Burst goes the extra mile to make sure you stay happy.

It's easy and instructive to check out the specs BEFORE you drop the bucks. I have owned two 450's. Lovely knife for casual carry. I sold one because it didn't fit my hand... Of course, the second new one doesn't fit my hand either... i.e. the definition of "insanity."
the 804 is almost an inch longer in the grip, as well as a longer blade. Better for big hands/heavy duty.
I am very fond of the 801BRZ model...a longer heavier folder than the 450 and have two of these, as they are so nice. (and sold out.)

Harnds Talisman - very cheap [$34] flipper with action like expensive ZT's and fit$finish like in Benchmade or better.

His tip isn't very strong and pocket clip is like in a pen, but it's only $34.

ZT0801, heavy but noticeable flipping action
ZT0562CF is also a good option but I don't dig in the handle ergonomics with my medium size hand
BM940-1, light and lot of blade for in a small form factor
Delica 4 has some of the qualities of the PM2 in a lighter and thinner package
Small and large sebenza 21 and insingo at really to be considered if deep carry clip is not required
Southern grind spider monkey, small but with a strong blade and a wave opening feature

I've heard the 0450 is easy to put finger pressure on the lock which makes it hard to open if you aren't paying attention.

And the 0804 requires you to close the blade about 40 deg before the blade hits the detent ball and requires a bit more pressure to push the lock out so the ball rides onto the blade. If your particular lock is a bit stiff it puts the blade where it's not easy to push the blade with your fingers without changing hand position. It's not easy to explain but hopefully you get what I'm saying.

Hopefully others will comment on those 2 things.

Why don't you like Benchmade? A smooth AXIS lock is about as fun to flip open and just as importantly, flip closed, as you can find. My personal favorite is the 950 Rift.

The Reate Horizon D is the most recent one that I've been really impressed with. It will be my next knife. The wave also looks great but is a little smaller than I like and I haven't been able to fondle it yet.

I've had numerous RAT 1's and two RAT 2's. Both are excellent carry knives and worth twice their cost.
Whether a fellow spends $40 or $400 on a folder is a very personal thing, with lots of reasons either way.

My most enjoyable folder is my Seamus Knives Irish Uber Crossover. I love the forest green G-10, 6K blade,Celtic back spacer...It ticks all the boxes for me. It was made for me.

Brous Silent Soldier Flipper

i do like my Brous Silent Soldier Flipper too! good tastes as well. its got amazing jimping, great ergos and that push button flipping action is great. i have a later gen, i heard the earlier gens suffered some issues.

804 because its got a big slab of carbon fiber on one side and the action is amazing and drop shuts too. my 450 is nice, but i just like the 804cf so much more. the 450 is just too scary to carry. other people just freak out when they see it. and for that reason alone i dont recommend it. the action is much different than the 804cf, its still smooth but it slams shut rather than drop shut and the detent is really strong (in the 0450).

the 804cf can be had for give or take around $215

There are so many options available that it's difficult to make a recommendation. Buck, Spyderco, Benchmade, Cold Steel, Kershaw, are all reputable makers. If you look around you could find a new/used CRK on these forums.

benchmade fit and finish is horrible... could you use a better analogy to describe that, unless thats what you ment?
