Your most impractical purchase?

I am an owner of a Cold Steel Chaos Tanto that sits in my bug-out bag for the sole purpose of a self-defense knife. I have yet to use it, since its one purpose is something I hope to never resort to. It's fits my hand well, though, and makes me feel good when I hold it. :D

I just ordered a spyderco vallotton a few hours ago. +6oz, 4mm thick blade, steep hollow grind, polished handles.
I'm not sure how much more impractical that can get.
Oh wait. There is the D/A version...

I don't spend money on impractical knives, it's a waste of money
Thanks to Bladeforums I saved myself from buying jarbenzas, etc

I bought a Kabar Tanto when I was first starting out. It was a combination edge with an 8" blade. No real need for that in my day-to-day.

This thread needs more pictures! :) Here is a another one that I have a hard time justify as being practical in any sense...or define "practical". It's possible to slice a tomato with it, not very good though.

The most impractical knife I ever purchased? That's easy . . . back in the mid 1980s, before graduating high school, I was offered a "great deal" on a slightly used pilum ballistic knife for half price (this was before they were banned). Most useless knife I ever owned, and downright hazardous even though it wouldn't take an edge.

The runner up is this genuine "Grizzly Skinner" designed by Jim Frost during the early 80s and made in Japan. The only reason I bought it is because I wanted to spin it around my finger like Chavez in "Young Guns" . . . and it was only $28!!!!!!! I am not even ashamed. :p

I didn't buy it but I did recently trade for a Cold Steel Voyager Tanto XL. It's pretty much useless to me and just sits in my knife cabinet waiting for a homicide that I have yet to plan. :p The quality is a lot better than I expected tho and it is fun to open and close and fondle.
It's the only knife I have that is 100% weapon and it's just really unlikely it will ever be used.

Bought Spyderco Police in stainless several years ago...wow, what a big honking folder. Needless to say, I returned it immediately and got a Delica in G10 instead.

I bought a Ontario Knife CO. spec 6 military fighting knife for $39.00 because the price was cheap ,and it looked cool . I have no use for this knife but it is cool and very big.

See I like a lot of the blades you all got.....and at a deal for a few!

I bought a 7" cord-wrapped "tactical bowie" once at a gun show, despite the facts that knives that large are illegal to carry in Texas and that I have all the hand-to-hand combat prowess of a tribble. :D

You're reaction to danger is to mate?

My pointless purchase was my Cold Steel Gladius Machete. I always wanted a sword but could never justify spending hundreds on something I'd never use. So I spent $20 on a piece of yard maintenance equipment! I don't have any serious brush around the house but totally a mature purchase, right?
Yeah, my wife didnt think so either. When WWZ happens she can behead her own damn zombies.

Yeah, but you know the freakin' day after you sell it you'll need to murder a guy, and you'll only have a Chive or a SAK and you'll be like "Damn."

I'm right there with you. I've never wanted an otf until the last few weeks, and now all of a sudden I'm lusting for an ultra tech as well. It seems like an expensive letter opener, but just looks like it would be so much fun. Now to decide which configuration😧?

Very true. That's why I'm hanging on to it, just in case.

Hell yeah, I just picked one up today. I like it lol.

What I'd really like to do is polish the blade to a mirror finish if I can. :D

Kershaw 3200 ripcord.
Otf that WA deployed by pulling it out of its kydex sheath. It's a wtf was I thinking, when I got it.
