Your most impractical purchase?

What if your neighbor had this in his front yard?

I didn't buy it but I just got it for Christmas from the In-Laws. They know I am into knives, shooting, ect. and truly thought this was the greatest knife ever.
He went on and on about just how nice it was for the money.

I took it gracefully and thankfully.

I'm not sure whether I should toss it in a drawer and forget about it or grind a good edge on it and beat it to hell and let em see it got good use.

I just ordered a Cold Steel Scottish Broadsword. Since I don't plan on going to war with Middle Ages-era England anytime soon, I don't consider this a real practical purchase.

I have 3 or 4 types of sharpener, I must need 2 more. Check!
I have 3 or 4 Becker BK knives, I MUUUUUST need 2x BK5, a BK4, and a BK17... CHECK!

Granted, one of the BK5 is for my brand new son, (12-26-2014) when he's responsible and ready, but I'm rigging spoilt. No doubt about it!

Purchased a sword, kukri and the tanto from zombie tools 1 order just to see what they were all about.Very well made but will never be used.

I haven't counted very well, but I've had 20-30 NIB PM2's, perhaps 20 Sebenzas, and just four NIB Sage 2's, and never had carried any of them. There are probably one hundred more that I'm not listing...
Nearly all of them are gone at this point, and I'm doing much "better" with my obsession.
Of course, it was a fun run.
Happy New Year.
p.s. Oh yeah, I did make one "buy" this morning about 3 a.m. I'll never carry it; just look at it. But I can sell it again easily, so no significant loss.

Congrats on your child!

I've never used a throwing knife, as I don't see the practicality of them. But, they were selling a three blade set made by sog at Wal-Mart over the holiday season for 20 bucks. I bought them just to play with. Then Christmas day comes and my in-laws also bought me the same set. Neither set has been taken out of the package...as I have nothing to throw them at but the neighbors cat who seems to always be on my car.

I bought a boker war toad, not practical but I love it. It makes me happy everytime I carry it and use it.

Speaking of Böker. The Albatros is more or less useless, at least as a knife. Extremely thick blade that don't cut and no real point. But I kind of like the design. So I see this particular knife as an exercise in design more than a cutting tool.

Just bought an ultratech for about the same reason. Needed an OTF automatic for the collection. Carried it, fired it tons of times, but unless another knife nut comes over it will sit on my knife shelf with my rubber chicken. And next to my GEC Roughneck cartoon like knife. Plenty more room for other fun but useless (to me) knives. Oh well.

Cold steel ti lite. Pretty much good at only stabbing things. It's a beautiful knife though. Most of my large choppers have been impractical. I used to live in the country as a kid and I thoroughly used my trailmaster for chopping all sorts of things, I now live in a large metropolitan area and it doesn't see much use now. Still can't part with it. For one alot of the coating at the edge is worn off from use, sheath is beat up, but it holds a lot of nostalgia for me. I wanted that knife so bad when I was 15 that I saved up for almost a year, now owned it seven years.

I just got a large ti - lite , still wondering what the heck I'm going to do with it. But like you said it's a beautiful knife.

Darn man im sorry. This is why friends dont let non knife friends buy knives.

Since my knife needs are ultralight these days, virtually everything I've bought has been impractical or downright redundant. My only justification is that I just like knives.

Ive become so conscious of what I buy now, I cannot contribute here, but a few years ago I could have made it in here very easily....

Cold Steel XL Espada. Really, there's no practical reason to own one. I just can't help but grin from ear-to-ear when I pick it up and swing that blade out, though.

I took it to the Christmas Turkey. Made quick work of it, but was a little difficult to do the detailed de-boning work.

I also have a Cold Steel Warrior O-Tanto that I picked up this past summer. Have yet to cut anything with it. Maybe I'll chop watermelons next summer.

Living in a more-or-less auto-friendly state, I own several switchblades. I see them more as fairly useful toys, as they can, and do, get the job done. Protech Godfather, Microtech LCC D/A, MT Scarab, Protech Dark Angel. I also swing a Balisong on occasion. Yes, a one-hand opening and closing knife is practical. :D
