Your most lasting folder

I have many that I enjoy and switch up often. Though I'd probably pick the ZT 0456 as my favorite EDC carry. But the last few years I've found myself carrying more than one at a time. So most often, it's the trusty 0456, and something else that piqued my interest for whatever reason.

The Bugout is just so easy to carry, that it usually gets the nod nowadays.

I checked out a Mini Bugout this weekend, and if it came in any color but that gawd-awful orange, I'd have bought it.

This Mini Grip with the sheepsfoot blade and aftermarket scales keeps asking to be the next fave carry.
There's a model with white scales and a black blade.

Alox Electrician.

I put it on my Christmas list, three (?) years ago, and I've been carrying it at work, ever since. My wife is a Macguyver fan, so I figured it was pretty much a sure thing. I was tired of throwing more money at folding knives, only to find myself looking to buy another one after a month, so I decided to see what there was at the low end of the market.

If I'm carrying an expensive knife that I spent hours weighing the pros and cons of, I'm going to be afraid to use it, because I've got so much time, energy, and money, wrapped up in it. But with the Alox? No problem. I'm not emotionally attached to it, it's just a practical tool for opening cardboard boxes and little plastic bags, stripping wire that's too big for a dedicated tool, and the flat blade tip there is surprisingly tough. Realistically, it would do everything this town boy needs from a knife, both in and out of work. I switch it up on the weekends, because I want to.

The only folder I carry more than one day a week is the Victorinox Classic clipped to my keychain. As for my daily choice for a carry knife, I make it a point to never carry the same knife more than one day a week. Kinda like my wristwatch and underwear.....

The one knife I always go back to, is a Buck 110.

To be fair , I have about a dozen different variations of the 110, but I always pick one of them.

Since finding this pocket slip, I carry a 110 even more, because I hate belt sheaths.
I have a single slip with a pocket clip too.

Without doubt and/or unquestionably a Demo knife.
A Demo Knife or 4 blade scout/camp knife has been part of my EDC pretty much every day since April 06, 1960, when one of my uncles gave me the (first?) one the Army issued him for my 5th birthday, while home on leave between a tour in Viet Nam, and a tour in Germany.
(sadly, that knife vanished (along with a lot of my other stuff that my mum trashed or gave away) when my mum divorced my pop, in 1966)

The oldest Demo I have is a Western made, issued to me by the Army Reseves, in 1975. (no picture; it is in my cigar box, over at the Assisted Living facility's owner's place until after the state finally gets around to inspecting here).

The Western made is almost identical to the Marbles MR 278. The differences being:
(1) The Western is 1/16 inch longer closed than the Marbles.
(2) The Western has "CAN OPENER" stamped on the can opener blade, whereas the Marbles lacks that blade identification stamp.
(3) The Marbles has match strike nail nicks on all four blades, and has "MARBLES" etched on the main blade.
(4) Different tang stamps. ("Marbles" vs "Western")

(NOTE: Only one blade per spring is opened half way. I have no use for, nor any desire for, a busted backspring.)

I get the Viking beads and create my own

Thanks for answering my post, Gary! I was trying to get ahold of you after seeing the bobtail fob that was on the knife that you sold today, but I didn't see a way to PM you.
I was looking at some fob stuff on BladeHQ. Where is the best place to get stuff to make our own?

This is what I carry a lot. I found this 12OT years ago with the tip broken off. I "created" my first wharncliffe blade. ;)

I had a Massdrop Keen designed by Ray Laconico that I was very fond of. The action was very smooth and I kinda hate I let it get away. However Im waiting on an Artisan Centauri which is also a Laconico design that I got in a trade. (Thanks Gary) I'm hoping it will fill the spot.

For me, it has to be the Spyderco Southard.
When I just started really getting into knives in 2016 I stopped by Blade HQ while on a road trip. They had one in the display box and I fell in love!

I pined for it, but couldn’t bring myself (at the time) to drop the $250 retail for a knife! Then I discovered the Exchange (and my wallet ached).

I love how every contour is beautifully chamfered.
I love the blade shape and high hollow grind.
I love the amazing stonewash of the blade and scale.
Once I figured out it needed a push-button technique (I can be dense, I guess), I fell in love with the geometry of the flipper tab and mechanics of deployment.
I like brown.

I’m even charmed by it’s idiosyncrasies like asymmetric handle thickness, overly thick blade stock, and the oft criticized pocket clip.

The bearing/washer situation doesn’t inspire confidence, but mine are still going strong

When it’s not out for use, every time I crack my safe I can’t help but pick it up and flip it a few times.

It’s my only knife with “spares.” I always want to have one available.
