Your most loyal knife.

My Kershaw Shallot in stainless..It doesn't open as quickly as it once did, and its dull as hell, but I've had it for 6 years and I can't seem to lose it, only to be replaced. It's not used very often anymore but takes up a spot on in my dresser top box.

You know you could sharpen it, right?

How loyal can a knife be?

If you lost it, and someone else found it, it would serve them just as well as it served you. And unlike a dog that might travel hundreds of miles to be reunited with it's owner, a knife isn't going to make the least bit of effort to get back to you. It isn't going to care how heartbroken you are over it's loss. And it isn't going to care how much money you spent on it or how well you took care of it.

And if you make a mistake with your knife, it won't hesitate for a second to cut you. Perhaps even cut you so badly that you need stitches or surgery. And it won't feel the least bit sorry.

Knives aren't loyal, they're whores. They'll cut for whomever picks them up, and if you're not careful, they'll cut you too.

Best reply of the whole thread!

My old CRKT M-1602Z. When the m-16's first came out, they blew my mind. There was a tab on the front of the blade that acted as a flipper for the knife! I thought this was just the most genius thing I had ever seen. I got the zytel model for my 16th birthday and carried it for ages until I got a real job and upgraded to the aluminum one (I gave the zytel one to my sister or I'd show you how beat up it is). Years and years of use. I upgraded to a mini griptillian from the old Cove cutlery in RI before it (and most all knife dealers in RI) died, which was promptly stolen and went back to it. It's sort of why I prefer tanto style blades where most can;t stand to use them. Not the best knife ever, but it was the one that suited me at the time. Newer models are kinda cheap feeling, or is it just me?

Do you mean the newer CRKT M16-02Z knives are cheap feeling? How are they different from the old ones?

Very cute dog!
Most loyal? Maybe I should have said your most reliable.
Pets are so awesome.
Our Maine Coon Lynxsy is the love of our life.
They really are part of the family!

I've carried this knife since I bought it from the man himself, Bud Nealy, he'd just gone full time and this was 1 of 7 knives he'd brought to the first ECCKS in Jersey. Blued O1 Aikuchi with distal tapered tang for balance and dovetailed bolsters holding black linen micarta scales secure. As you can see even for a custom knife from one of the foremost makers of self defense knives and sheath systems this kniv=fe has been loyal and done everything from making kindling, scraping gaskets, making dinner and as a last ditch backup for SD.

And since 2 years ago my plain Jane small Sebenza 21 is always by my side.

The Traditional I always throw in the bottom of my pocket is this 1911 Union Knifeworks Moose pattern with a broken blade, I ground the blade into a box cutter and I've carried and used the knife for everything till I found out how old and rare it was. I still carry it but I'm a little nicer to the old girl. I gotta say she's tight with walk and talk like it was brand new, this knife is so well made it'll still be around in 2026.

I agree with you Jack it's a piece of metal and bone, it's the memories we take away with us that after we've carried a particular knife through many years and adventures we attribute a persona to it and it's that persona and memories we miss. I had a Schrade UH897 and I carried it for many years and on many jobs till I lost it while working on a 150' fractioning still in chemical refinery like this when it fell and bounced off the catwalk into the weeds below. I looked for the rest of the time I worked there about another year in hopes of finding it, never happened.

I eventually bought a replacement but it wasn't the same, I wound up gifting it to a friend while it still looked NIB. No loyalty persay but until if took a 150' header off the still it was always handy and never let me down.

BTW beautiful puppy, your's Jack?

Mine are all loyal. They stay where I put them and don't wander around. None of them smart off to me either.

But in the vein of the thread, I have been a loyal Vic Sak user since about 1985 (that's 30 years).

My old Kabar cutlass machete, it's not expensive or fancy and it comes with a terrible sheath but it's been a great camp knife. Processes wood into kindling makes pegs and notches limbs poles, and I never feel bad or have a second thought about using it. I bought a Junglas with thoughts of replacing the cutlass but I can't bring myself to do it. I use it at work to chop threw roots and cut cable.
I love that thing

And they will take every last penny you earn!😉

This one. My DPX HEST has been in my pocket for 4+ years. It helped my cut the seatbelts of a trapped driver in one accidnet and to pry the door a bit to get it open in another accident.
