Your newest addition:traditionals of course!

Nice scores, Tom!

I just got back home from the show and took some quick pics of my knife show haul. I've wanted one of those cedar boxes the last two years I attended but never did pick one up. Had some funds left over so I finally got one.

The Schatt & Morgan #43 Jumbo Half Whittler is something I've been wanting too but I was kind of leery of an online purchase and I just missed one in The Exchange a couple months ago. I got to inspect this one and it's a pretty good example so I snatched it up. Red Elk and 420HC blades. I really like it. Feels absolutely fantastic in the hand. Wicked good snap, no play, pinned shield, and I can pinch the Wharncliffe blade open. I'll have to see if I can live with it for pocket carry as the Elk slabs are somewhat thick.

I ran into Mike Alsdorf at the show and didn't have enough funds to pick up one of his knives so I bought this Alsdorf pendant for my wife instead. I think Mike said the inlays are Azurite.

I stopped by Grand Prairie Knives on the way home but walked out empty handed. It was fun browsing though.

Nice Rick! That Schatt & Morgan did feel amazing in-hand.

Well, I complete the triumvirate. I joined Tom and Rick at the knife show this morning and these are the two I came home with. The first is a Case red bone 6392 from 1976. Apart from a blade rub between the spey and sheepfoot, it's mint.

The second knife is a club knife from the Gateway Area Knife Club, whose show we attended. It's a Solingen made Rigid branded sowbelly with fantastic, matched popcorn stag. It does have a lot of etches on the blades (the sheepfoot has the St. Louis skyline with the Arch), but oooohh that stag!

Whaaat??? You drive around with an unopened knife-box!!??:eek::mad:

You Sir need to get a CAR KNIFE :D:D My CASE Stockman lives under the driver's seat for just such eventualities

Ted That's an enviable looking Lambfoot, wish I could get one that good but I've had not much luck with the pattern. Yours looks excellent, and a GAW win makes it really special

Thanks, Will

lol I have two knives on me but I have a Strick ritual before opening I follow even when I retrieve one from the mail at my house which includes finishing or making dinner lunch etc. and other chores lol . It makes me look forward to the unveiling even more :D
But yes it is painful waiting longer but I like it :D

Went to a local knife show today, picked up a custom and 3 Winchester Black Box knives.

That's a nice haul, Tom! Who is the maker of the fixed blade?

Railsplitter Railsplitter You did pretty good too. GP Knives is always a fun stop. Their business hours combined with my work schedule makes it hard to get over there even though it's only about a 30 min drive.

black mamba black mamba The stag does look really well matched, but it's hard to beat that red bone on the older Case knives.

Glad you guys had a good time and found some cool stuff. Looking forward to see what's still there tomorrow.

Well folks disappointment strikes !
Main blade is chipped and or rounded off and some scratches and buff marks on back strap . Other then that what a beautiful knife , very solid , no blade play nice walk and talk on the main but secondary is a little gritty . Fit and finish with the exception of what I mentioned is outstanding on this case bose . Unfortunately the negatives are unacceptable to me since the knife was listed as new and unused “not on Blade Forums “ just to be clear . Any way making arrangements for a return as we speak but heres some pictures as promised : ( what a shame !

And the beautiful back strap :eek:
Rounded / chipped tip to hard to photograph but you get the point or not lol since it’s rounded :)

Hey Dan - his name is Craig Schneider, can’t really vouch for his work yet but it is a nice thinly ground fixed blade in 1084 steel, I asked him about a custom build and he was agreeable, nice guy.

Railsplitter Railsplitter glad to hear Mike is back making knives. He took some time off a few years ago. He builds a very precise knife.
Yes, I always enjoy the few chances I get to chat with Mike. He was at the show last year too. Another member here was having trouble getting Mike to answer his phone so I called the member while I was standing in front of Mike and handed Mike the phone. I never did hear if the member got a knife from Mike or not.

I noticed some small daggers on Mike's table that looked really nice but I didn't talk to him about those. They appeared to be cut from a single piece of steel but the transitions on Mike's knives are so precise that they might have just looked that way. They were really nice little daggers.

Mike had a couple of Paul Myers' knives at his table too. Mike mentioned that he got into making knives because he liked Paul's work so much and realized that he could probably do that too. Unfortunately, Paul passed away the day before the show last year.

I have a ritual too, I find the last knife I received and usually use that to open the package. I set up a cloth for a back drop and when time permits I take unboxing pictures. This start out as just pics but with all the thefts and deceptions it's become a way to document and protect myself some. Not that I've ever been ripped off or deceived by anyone on the forms here but if you check my profile you'll see I don't have a lot of tradin' feedback.

Basically if I have the time I do it all right, even to the point of entering it into the app I have for knife collectors that allows me to take a pic, add the knife to a catalog that's backed up and updated regularly. The nice thing is I can download/email/forward or whatever a text copy of my catalog. Then I take the pristine virgin pics before I do anything else to the knife. After that if it needs it I put my own edge on it and then decide into which pocket the new knife goes.

Of course the knife never stays in the pocket too long before it's in my hands playin' with it for the rest of the day.

BTW the app for makin' an inventory of your knives using your phone is called Sort It! (click on the link to check out their site)

It even allows you to share your collection on social media and you can view and edit your collection on line with your computer too.

Sorry to go on a tangent but this app is so great for people like us I had to share. With your phone and this app you can take a pic of a knife, look it up on the internet and if you find it download the specs to your inventory spec page. Plus there's spots for notes and customization on the free version and a lot more on the bought upgrade but honestly you could get by fine with the freeware. Click on this link to take you to the thread with some screen caps of the app from my iphone.

Your ritual is much more thorough then mine ! :)
I just make sure I eat dinner or lunch have all my chores done and use either a tradional or modern folder depending what I’m opening to make sure it matches :D
Oh and use the same table and chair when opening .... I think that’s it lol.
Thanks for sharing the app that sounds like a great tool for our hobby

Those 3 BBs look great Tom  I keep thinking about looking for one whenever they get posted but then the mind wanders :( What's the scales material?

While I haven't ritualized the unwrapping process, I wait until I have enough time to really look the knife over. (I'm like that at Xmas and my birthday, drives my family nuts.)

Here's my newest, from the exchange. I'd not head of Phil Tham, and there's not much about him to be found. But, I'd been looking for a small fixed blade, and this little number fits the bill. It is very nicely executed, and came with a well made leather horizontal belt sheath. I found that the short lanyard is great for getting it started out of the sheath by wrapping my pinkie around it, pulling and grasping as it exits. I'd appreciate any info you all might have about Phil.
