I’m a bit late posting them, but I recently got two #86’s from the current run.

GEC-branded stainless Barlow in Red and Black Linen Micarta.

And a Tidioute Angus Jack in Medium Rare Macassar Ebony.

Then I picked up this A.G. Russell Boxcar Jack in Pink and Blue Oak while I was down in Arkansas this past weekend.

It locks up solid when the two sides are together, with just a slight gap between the liners where they meet. The “hook” part of the bottle opener holds the pin in place when the fork is closed, and a small detent spring provides just enough resistance to keep the two sides together even with the fork open, until you’re ready to separate them.

The blade is hollow ground with a nice edge and even bevel. The nail nick on the fork isn’t entirely necessary, as it’s almost easier to use the top tine of the fork to open it, but I suppose it might look odd without the nail nick.

Here’s a photo comparing the fork on the Boxcar Jack with the fork on GEC’s #35 Beer & Sausage knife. Personally, I think the A.G. Russell is the better design, both aesthetically and, I’d imagine, functionally (although I haven’t put that to the test yet).

I had been curious about this knife for a while, but never pulled the trigger. The ones I had considered before were in smooth white bone (which I believe they’ve discontinued) and yellow Delrin (which they didn’t have in stock). In fact, the dyed oak that I got was out of stock except for the two they had on display. The other display model looked more like the very pink example in the photo below from A.G. Russell’s site. I much prefer the mostly blue (slightly purple) one I ended up with. 😁

What luck, this is the one I wanted and I only managed to get a black plum 🤷‍♂️

Beautiful plum you got there! I managed to snag one each of the ironwood, plum, and micarta. I moved the micarta along because it was my least favorite of the 3. Guess I’m not a micarta scale guy in hand, but they sure look nice. Absolutely love the other two!

I have one of those Boxcar Jacks that I purchased in 2018. A very well designed knife. Looks like the detent spring is an upgrade from the earlier design.

These two arrived together today so I will post them together. I was pleasantly surprised to find the overall fit, finish and action of the Schrade USA 206 to be excellent - really much better than I was expecting. I am not sure why I thought it would feel cheap, but it does not. The GEC ain't bad either.

Nice knife. I have one exactly like it (fancier scroll stamped sheath) from my long ago youth. Imperial made good knives back then. Enjoy.

Had a nice guy in a Facebook group offer to pick something up for me from the factory store and this is what he got! My first 3 blade GEC. I really am enjoying this thing so far. After a little oil in the joints all the blades open smooth as butter! I definitely would like to get another stockman pattern now.

I'll try stitching up the sheath, but I think I'll also make a pouch sheath with a lining to keep the blade off the leather.
