Your Signature?

I guess you could say that mine is an attempt to take the edge off of some of the posts when we get too intense or fired up on some topics.

If we take ourselves too seriously, then it's only right that no one else does. Besides, if I am REALLY fired up, I can just leave it off.

Isn't it amazing how 2 cents worth of opinion takes up a quarter's worth of paper???

Please excuse the crayon. They won't let us have anything sharp in here.

Hey,

David Rock, that sounds awfully familiar. I like the way you think!!!

As for me, my signature usually follows a quote that makes me feel good on that particular day. Once I found this quote, it stuck.

Whoever said you can't buy happiness, doesn't know where to shop.

I got my signature from a sergeant from my department years ago who would say to us before going on patrol always watch your six! Meaning watch your AS*! Plain and simple.

------------------
"ALWAYS WATCH YOUR SIX"

Mine speaks for itself- it is a hard look into the mind of someone who did what they "thought" was right for their country... even though it was'nt.

Well, its a intersting psycological statement, as well as the firs part of my favorite story.

------------------
"The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity,
and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated
knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the deadly light into the peace and
safety of a new dark age." ~H.P. Lovecraft, The Call of Cthulhu

Well, thats the long version!

Mine is from Decimus Junius Juvenal
(AD 60-130) a Roman satirist.

In his work Omnia Romae ("Predicting Rome") Juvenal was
concerned with the direction Rome (the Empire and concept) was
turning to...no longer a true Republic, only in name;the increasing
division and separation of the 2 Romes (the citizenry and the Imperial
gov't); the pacifying of the citizens with games and free things, the
increasing regulations with accompanying loss of citizenship rights
and freedoms, increasing citizen disarmament with only the gov't troops having weapons, citizenry apathy numbed by the State provided
excesses, etc. In this work he likens the Roman Republic to an over
protected and indulged wife:

'Pone seram, cohibe. Sed quis custodiet ipsos Custodes? Cauta est
et ab illis incipit uxor.'.....Bolt her in, keep her indoors. But who
shall guard the Guards themselves?
Your wife arranges
accordingly and begins with them.

I trust no one who enforces altruism with a gun to my head....you listening Ms. Reno?

My signature is a quote from a book on hand-to-hand combat called "Kill or be Killed" from WWII. I think it was written by Applegate. It expressed the obvious that you should avoid a knife fight on equal terms. Reminds me of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

------------------
"Defense against knife attack:
Option 1. If you have a gun shoot him."

My .Sig comes from the song, "Closer to the Heart" by Rush...I just thought it fit the vibe, here...

My sig is obviously just a play on words - a feeble attempt at humour.

For the LEO's amongst us, my signature is probably already known.
For anyone else that's interested to know...This is a saying that Correction Officers use to bring to attention, the fact that we perform one of the most dangerous jobs that you could think of, yet recieve very little respect from the public in general.
....Try to picture what it is like to work in an enviornment that puts you face to face with murderer's, rapist's, robbers, child molester's and any other scum that you can think of, with a good majority of them not caring about any other human beings, and very willing to hurt or kill you if the need arises, every time you go to work.
So, next time you hear someone say " Oh, he's just a Jail Guard " , maybe you can educate them a little bit.

Mine is from the last stanza of "Ulysses" by Tennyson.

We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

Just seemed like a good philosophy for life.

Just life experience for me.

Keys to happiness:
1) Get a firm grip on reality.
2) Strangle it.

Right now, I seem to be between signatures. In the past, I've used:

"From the group W bench" in reference to Arlo Guthrie's Alice's Restaurant.

"Is that thing shar...OW!" in reference to my sometimes clumsy curiosity.

On several other forums, I sign from the "Detroit Area Chapter, Terra Haute Torque and Recoil Society"
