Your thoughts on Elmax steel?

With rare exceptions, no steel is "not for me." Almost all of them will get sharp enough to shave. Most of them will keep that razor edge for longer than just shaving the hair on my arms. Most of them again will maintain a razor-to-keen working edge for most tasks for plenty long enough. ALL of them will need to be re-sharpened eventually. I've come to the conclusion that until someone comes out with a real live "light saber," NO knife is worth buying purely for the steel used in it.

I've been saying this for years. I don't buy a knife strictly for the steel used in it. I look at more important factors like edge geometry, handle ergonomics, and quality level. (fit &finish)

Nice video RWT.After spending some time this weekend cutting with it and then putting it to the stone it seems very rugged. So far in my short time of fooling around with the Elmax it has more of a tool steel feel to it than s30v which imho is also a very good steel.

Here are some videos of Elmax at work. I would say a huge factor is going to be heat treat, with edge goemetry coming in close second. I carry a lionspy folder and while a nice knife, the steel didn't blow me away. I used Elmax for some of my EDC-4 blades and had Peter's Heat treat do them to 59-60Rc, with a cryo bath and these things are awesome. Sorry for plugging my company while giving input but the video tests are still valid for demonstrating what Elmax is capable of. In my personal experience Elmax outshines S30V. Hope it helps.
